Okay guys, I may be kind of narrow minded because I don't like anything outside of the Nissan ring, and I know that an FD is a Mazda Miata and a DSM is a AWD Talon/Eclipse, but what do they mean?

FD refers to the last RX-7 model. chasis is FD3s.....i think?

DSM refers to Diamond Star Motors. a coalition of mitsubishi, chrysler, dodge, plymouth, eagle. to create the first DSM cars eclispe, talon, laser,.........later on they were only produced by mitsubit**** and eagle.

just so you know FC would be the rx-7 chasis before the FD.toyota trueno .....corolla gts.....would be AE86.....

just like our cars...we refer to them as S-13, RPS-13, S-14....S14.5 ....etc etc.

yup, except the AE86 is the 86' year. you got AE86-89 me thinks.you'd want the twin cam version .

i coulda swore "AE86" referred to the chassis and all those years that looked the same were "AE86's" someone correct me if Im wrong .. . . maybe Ive been watching too much Initial D

yeah, FC3S = 1987 -> 1991 rx7FD3S = 1993 -> 1995 (US spec RX7, FD's in japan ended production this year)AE86 = body style of 85-89 corollas, even though you can say that you have a AE85 -> AR89, depending on the year. such as a 91' AE is an AE101

no, the AE86 is the chassis code for the corolla, just like our cars, i know i used to own a 87 gts

AE86 is only the chassis code for the GTS in America. The econoboxes are not AE86s. ; ) Much Like Hachi Roku ( 8 6 ) is the AE86, and the Hachi Go ( 8 5 ) is the AE85. Both were out in the same year, but they are different codes. : ) Sort of like RPS13 and S13.

AE86= GTS twin cam 16-valve fuel injectied, disc brakes all round, sport suspension...i'm sure there is moreAE85=SR5 single cam 12-valve carburated, drum brakes in back

i wouldn't neccessarily say they are like S-13 and RPS13 but more like RPS13 type x and RPS13

also for the AE...those are your first 4 vin characters
