The 2000 Cobra R engine is a DOHC 5.4L. It has 9.6:1 compression, comes with shorty headers, bassini x-pipe, and borla cat-back. It likes to rev, compared to the Lightning motor, which is SOHC, 2 valve/cyl. runs 8.4:1 compression to accomodate 8psi boost. The R peaks at 5700 and redlines at 6500. the lightning peaks at only 4750, redlines at 5250. Yep it's quite amazing how much difference you can get in 2 engines, based on the same block. Can you tell I use to be a huge ford guy, before my 240SX got me hooked on Nissan? woo hoo Nissan Forever!!! the lightning might stomp my car in a drag race, but I'd smoke it thru the curves, and use half as much gas to do it!
tru, and with a bit of modification, im sure an sr20det 240 could hold its own in a drag, as long as u have the right mods and tires, and of course driver, and yea through the curves, he stands no chance, but either way, nissan makes one car that ford has never topped IMO......GT-R baby!!!!!!, well i like the gt-40, but for the price....cmon

I was on a two lane road and a friend in his new stang gt got next to a Z28 camaro at a light. I think the engine is called ls1, or lt1 i dont remember, but it was the camaro with 285hp, and 3400lbs vs 260hp 3200lbs stang gt... my friends mustang won, but it was close. Both cars only had the driver in the car. My car on the other hand had a friend in it. I was behind the camaro, and gave it all I had. Surprisingly, the whole time I was right behind them, they were pulling slowly. My only modification is hotshot headers, but had beautiful shifts, the stick just poped into the next gear, at redline, but right before the fuel cutoff. Now I have exhaust and the car seems to pull even more. I figure with cai, jwt chip, hs headers, exhaust driver skill/tires will determin the winner if I race my friends gt officially.

EDIT: Oh yea I plan on getting an obx short shift soon.

well, it wasn't side by side so It's hard to tell.. at the start I was about 1 car lenght behind so I wouldn't hit him.. but I expected them to pull on me much quicker. At the end I was about 4 car lenghts behind. Hard to say it was a while ago. I was expecting to be left in the dust.

try a v8, you'll be surprised. Just stay away from the new camaros. I cant imagine going against 300+ hp.

I went to the Drag strip last Friday, in my bone stock 1990 240SX. I ran 16.3. So I would assume with the DOHC, you would get better then this.

Apzak...that would have been the LT1 engine if I'm not mistaken, I've driven a stock one and was not that impressed...but the LS1 was great fun :D
