I have taken off the aiv on my car and am having problems finding somthing to plug it up with. I was told that the fumes and air temp can get extremly hot and that it would melt or blow the plastic vaccum plug that i have in it. is this true? right now that is what i have on it with a hose clamp. what is the best way to plug this line. I don't have the plastic plug directly in the metal pipe, I have the old rubber hose that was on thier and put it in the end of that hose. Please help?

ya, i dont think a plastic plug will hold for long, you will know if it fails, it will be loud. i think most people use a metal bolt.

nm, didnt see you had it in the rubber hose, the plastic bolt and hose clamp should be just fine, ignore what i said above

so the rubber vaccum plug should hold in the stock hose line with a hose clamp?

Wait, are you plugging the port from the header or from the AIV unit itself? From the header you use the old "two nickels" trick and fold the metal pipe. For the AIV unit, just use a vacuum cap.

Okay,

After removing the metal pipe from the header, place two nickels into the hole. The opening is the perfect size to accept ten cents and this will pretty much plug up the whole. Now, cut the pipe you just removed, leaving about three inches and "fold" it over and over to make sure that any residule gasses don't escape. Thread that folded portion back into the header and boom!....... two nickels trick.

Unscrew the metal pipe from the header and buy the plug from the dealership that threads into the header at the point where the pipe came from originally. This will give you a very clean and trouble free AIV removal. Do not forget to cap off the vacum lines at the throtle body.

Take the two nickels and put them towards the AIV plug.

so there is a plug that i can get from the dealership? because i was told by a shop that it was illegal to remove the aiv due to emmisions, but one could do it there self and get by with it but he couldn't advise me on how to go about doing it..

Yes there is a plug. It is "illegal" to remove the AIV, but no one will know the difference. It will not do anything to your emmisions, because the AIV never did jack. S14 did not have an AIV. You live in Texas you do not care about AIV. Ditch it and get a plug. It is just a very short bolt that bolts into that big gapping hole left in your exhaust manifold.
