My poor '97 Y33 crapped out on me a few months ago. Now I finally have the money to get the motor swapped out by a shop. I bought a "low mileage" engine from a guy on facebook (sounds worse than it is), but i need to know what i need to do to get the engine prepped to go in. I've already started a list of things to rebuild/replace:

*power steering pump
*power steering lines
*air conditioning system
*knock sensors x2?
*valve cover gaskets x2
*water pump?
*oil filter housing (already have)
*crank position sensor (remove from orig. engine)
(the last two are because of an incident I had with the engine after i bought it)

Are there any things I haven't thought of that I should get done before the motor goes in?

I would replace the O2 sensors (NGK/NTK) and spark plugs (NGK OEM spec Platinum) -- that should give the engine a crisp new feel when you take it for the first drive.

Also search for paranoidjack posts as he replaced the engine in his Y33 a while back and posted a wealth of information about the operation.

I'd do everything on your list except the p/s pump (assuming it looks ok) - those aren't frequent failure items. A/C system might be a bit overkill... if your old one was working well, you might transfer it over and recharge it.

Knock sensors and the subharness feeding them are known to fail often. Coil packs are also frequent failures on the Y33... it might be worth saving the ones on your old engine if you're willing to swap them in vs. just buying a whole new set.

On the two you said were over kill, both of those systems failed in one way or another. Thats why they're on the list.

Don't get me wrong, I like overkill! I'm just speaking from what I've seen in terms of failure rates. If you feel more comfortable replacing them with the engine out of the car, then I'd certainly go that way.
