What do I need. Newbie here.

Hey guys im new on this forum and this will be my first post. I purchased a 91 maxima 5spd today for 500 bucks. Ive always wanted one of these cars and now I finally have one.

So here comes the problems, the steering jerks back and fourth depending on what your doing and I know things need to be replaced. Im looking to get all the parts and install everything myself. My question is what all do I need? Im pretty sure all off the steering and axle components need replacing before this thing feels safe again. So I was thinking, Steering rack, both cv axles, maybe a steering column, and all the swaybar links and pretty much everything in the steering and driving components.

So tell me which parts i need. Im sure its going to be a pretty long list but im up for it. Thanks guys.

it's not clear what you are asking...b/c you already told us what you need. You don't really need us to tell you anything b/c you've figured out what parts need replacing.

Ok, a list of the parts that I need. I wanted to know if I was missing anything. Are there any other steering components that I might need other than the ones that I mentioned, or do I have everything?

1. Steering rack2. CV axles right and left3. swaybar links

I think the steering column is fine. Am I missing anything?

while ur in there, replace some bushings. they are probably 18 years old

Ok thanks! When I go to get the bushing which ones do I ask for. I havnt really done too much suspension/axle work since ive been working on cars so names of the parts I need would be a great help. Thanks.

get new sway bar bushings for the new sway bar. new CV axle seals(they are cheap so you might as well).check your tie rod boots.check your control arm bushings.

to find out what kind of bushing or anything like that you need to figure out the specifications of the 91 max, I'm going through the same sorts of things with my 93, and have some of the specs learned has helped a lot. usually thats what your local parts shop is for. Or another thing I had done to find out what's wrong or to find out what parts I need is go get a quote at a mechanic, and communicate what your doing most of them will be stoked you have a project car.

have you ever installed axel seals on a maxima before? i would only do it if they are leaking fwiw.

op: just buy every energy suspension bushing they make for your car. they will last forever and are a big upgrade over stock and not much more pricey. bushings as always are a b**** to install but it's well worth it.

i LOVE my turd gen. great lil car. 190hp 5sp lsd ftw. i want to drop it and throw on a bodykit but that is horrible for a winter driver...
