I want to swap my 96 maxima engine for a 2004 maxima engine. Is it possible? If so, what do i need for the swap? Is it also possible to swap the trans. to a 6 speed?

I was born and grew up in Gainesville [until I escaped to NYC] so I'll cut you some slack.

My first mod was an engine swap into a 1962 Ford it cost me $1200 in 1967 dollars that would be $12,000 in todays dollars.

The point is if you have to ask you probably are not trained and qualified to do the job, so you'll have to pay people after you secure all the parts from a junkyard and rehabilitate them for the install and longevity.

North Georgia and specifically Atlanta Metro has Nissan specialty shops that can do the fabrication work.

The ecu and harness will need replacing along with gauges and other in dash wiring to make sure you comply with OBD2 emissions even though there is no test in Hall County YET.

Our shops would have no interest in the project at any reasonable price.

Go down to Road Atlanta and find some mechanics, they might have a referal, same with Circle Track across the street and the massive BMW junkyard /repair facility on the right closer to I-85.

It depends on whether you retain the VQ30 ECU or if you want to convert over to the VQ35. Both are possible and have been done over on maxima.org. The former is by far the cheapest and easiest but you will lose out on the VTC. VTC'less swaps, however, have been good for 13's in the 1/4 mile with bolt-ons and some have even touched 12's with bolt-ons, cams, and a tune. The VQ35 has the same external dimensions as the VQ30 and the motor mounts are also in the same exact location. You have to swap over the timing gear from a VQ30 if you're going to keep the 3.0 ECU but that's not a huge deal. The 3.0 flywheel/driveplate also bolts right up. Many have gone this route.

As for the VQ35 ECU swap, a few members have done that as well. It requires the motor of course, ECU/key/NATS IMMU (from the same car preferably), a 2002-2003 maxima main (dash) harness (unless you want to hardwire everything), 02-03 gauge cluster, gas pedal assembly, full engine control harness, a few relays and fuses and other miscellaneous objects and of course Factory service manuals for your car and the donor car. The only fabrication that is required is mating the VQ35 crank signal ring to the 3.0 flywheel/flex plate if you are retaining the A32 (1995-1999 maxima) transmission. I am in the process of gathering parts for my Full VQ35 swap with ECU and 6-speed conversion.

The 6-speed conversion has also been done successfully by a few members as well. All DIY just like the engine swaps. PM me for more details.

P.S. I wonder how many other hopeful VQ35 swappers have been shut down in this forum due to lack of info. =/
