I've been shown the hazards twice since I had my 240sx. First time I was on the interstate driving fairly fast, but at a consistant speed. I go by a bmw 330 rather quickly, and surely enough be proceeds to follow. He gets on my bumper so I pull into the middle lane, let him pass and he starts tailing a mini van flashing high beams. Mini van gets into my lane, slows me down so I get behind the 330. 330 starts driving slow so I pass him in the middle lane and resume whatever I was doing before. I get on my exit, take the exit and this 330 blows by me flashing hazards.. wtf was he telling me?

The second time I was at a light on a highway with bmw e36 looking headlights that's been up my *** ever since I passed him. (i'm guessing my n1 looking, softball launching exhaust is attracting these guys). Red light and someones in the right lane so this guy cant get next to me. Light turns green, hes behind me and I give it the usuall amount of gas (not flooring it, but quickly accelerating). Once this guy gets the right lane clear of me he accelerates heavily so I floor it and leave him behind. He resumes his normal speed limit travel so hes preaty far behind. I get into the right lane, slow down hope this guy passes to see what I went up against. Takes him a while to get to me doing 40mph in a 50mph zone, but finally he passes... WTF A VOLVO TURBO? damn I was hoping for atleast a 325. Anyway, I didn't think this was the guy, but as I signal to turn off, he lights up his hazards.. My friend with the TT supras in my car at the time and he says they mean "bring it", but I thought they mean "i won".. so what do they really mean?

I dunno. I heard hazards are the end of a street race though or something...

If we're driving with someone or race someone(not a good idea I know), we turn the flashers on when we seperate to say good bye or nice race. I had no clue what they meant the first time someone flashed them to me either, but then a couple guys told me what they mean around here. It may not be what they used them to say, but thats what us upstate New Yorkers use em for.

It means he beat you in a race supposedly. When you street race, after whoever is in front or whatever is over, they flash hazards saying its over and they won.

Hazards are "rice-geek-speak" for "I win".

As if it wasn't already obvious by the car being in front of, rather than behind you.

Kind of like "walking" the bases after hitting a home run - stupid and immature.

Weird I get them from people with expensive luxery cars.. I would expect a kid in a honda civic with a 30 foot wing to give me flashers when they loose but not grown men.

AZ, I guess I can see your point in the "ricey" comment or whatver because, yes, the winner is obvious, but it symbolizes the race is over, so quit flooring your fart-mufflered civic and trying to catch my car. If you didn't do something to say the race is over and you aren't going to try anymore, people who just keep going and going.

Did you read my post? The cars never got in front of me until I slowed to pull off my exit, or wait to see what was trying to catch me.

It means that when they saw how amazingly fast ur car was they almost **** their pants causing them to use the hazard lights as a sort of siren or police lights so ppl will move outa the way so they can get to the bathroom quickly.

Well to my knowledge Flashers combined with highbeams flicking on and off means "Let's Race"....but after a race it simply means.."See ya, nice race, enjoyed the death defying moment"

When driving on narrow single lane roads, if someone holds up traffic, and then is nice enough to pull over to let people through, I would either wave or flash my hazards to say thanks.

Does anyone know if this is common practise? It was just something I picked up as a habit while learning to drive (and being passed frequenly of course). Its mostly the guys in high end sports cars that do it (who else is going to be passing me :). I doubt the Ferrari and Porsche and Vette drivers flashing their hazards at me were really proud of going faster than a someone in a ratty old japanese car.
