Everything is the same mechanically. Just the sheet metal and interiors are slightly different.

A32 platform Maximas and I30s are mechanically identical (95-99.5 model years).

A33 platform Maximas and I30s with the 3.0L are mechanically identical (00-01 model years). A33 platform Maximas and I35s with the 3.5L are mechanically identical (02-03 model years for the Maxima, upto 04 for the I35).

Minor differences in suspension tuning and whatnot exist, naturally the interior and exteriors are different, but that's about it.

4th gen I30's have VLSD....maximas do not. Trannies are not interchangeable.

The A33s are actually not completely mechanically identical...the I30 has a slightly different exhaust from the Maxima which is why it is rated at 227hp vs. the 222 of the Maxima.

4th gen I30ts have VLSD. That's the only A32-chassis vehicle in the USA to get the RS5F50V transmission and not the RS5F50A.

The transmissions are identical internally except for the differential; because of this you'll need to swap over both half-shafts and the transmission if you want to switch between the open differential and the VLSD. They are interchangable if if you do the half-shafts.

The 5hp difference between the 00-01 models is mostly a paper difference, although 5hp is small enough to be almost within tolerance on a chassis dyno. I personally have worked on both `00 Maximas, `01 Maxima AE's with 227hp, and `00 I30's, and if the exhaust is different, it must be very subtle differences to the naked eye... :p

Unless you take into account the 01 Max AE with 227hp

Thank you for noting that. I'm not sure where that misnomer is being picked up, but I've seen it more than once.
