ok my $500 pathfinder is in need of paint. She is ugly! but runs strong and good at 295k on the odometer. I also have my 95 hb that could use some paint as well, but Im not sure. Anyone get a maaco paintjob? was wondering what you paid? I might just go get an orbital sander and go to town. Never tried it before though so dont know if I should start. Im horrible at prepping stuff

Well if it's already ugly learning on it can't make it any uglier.

I had my old mazda done there for like 500 bucks, I removed all trim and stuff so they would have better edges on taping. I removed tail lights mirrors antenna wipers etc. My old mazda was grey and faded as hell and the paint came out okay not bad shiney and like you said on a 1000 dollar truck no way was i spending any more. I was happy looked great, not show paint but got some compliments. had it 2 yrs and held up well. If it needs body work it may be more but they run the 300 dollar job and did a few dents on the tailgate for 500. If it needs a good bit of body work try it your self many places online to teach you or drop by a tech school and they may let you sit in on some classes, act like you want to check out school to attend LOL. Then get the maaco. 99% is prep work, that makes paint look good a monkey can shoot base clear

I'm doing all the prep work, primer, sanding and trim removal. Painting will be $300.00 and supply's another $250.00, using Nasson single stage 2K paint & Nasson clear.

A family member works for a Dealer and their painter will do it on weekends and lunch hour.

if you have 2 you want painted... do it yourself... why not give it a try as rev said?

buy a spray gun from sears or somethin' and then some paint ad go at it! just be sure to prep it well!

p.s. flat black looks good when sprayed through a gun

I totally agree too. If it is already ugly, then you can't mess it up anymore. I have had cars that looked so bad that a coat of primer made a huge difference. Just remember, if you mess up all you have to do is resand it and fix it. You always learn from mistakes. The first car that I painted I messed it up so bad that I ha to completely redo the whole thing. I find if I do things myself then thats more that I know and the less I have to pay other people.

Painting a car is not expensive. It's the body work and prep beforehand that is costly. If I had to get paintwork done, I'd try to find someone who as an artistic ability and genuinely loves doing it or someone retired who used to paint professionally and is doing bodywork at home to keep busy.

A good paint job is expensive. I use all RM products. a gallon of Pa 80 High build expoxy primer is $243.00 I can't recall how much the catalyst is for it. a gallon of Base coat- amber pearl for example is $400.00. You get what you pay for. I'm painting my 68 Firebird convertible RM Siverstone met. basecoat/clearcoat. if I had to pay someone to do it. it'd be about $5,000.00.

Well I ended up trading the pathfinder to my sister. She owed me money and had a newer Jeep cherokee. I wish I still had the pathfinder. She took it to maaco. As expected they quoted her $275 on the phone. When she got there of course it was $400. Anyway, Car looks ok from 5 feet away. once you get up to it you can see drips, places where they didnt sand, and it looks like someone rolled an orange all over the wet paint. About what I expected and probably as good as I could have done myself. Still i think its an ok deal. i would have spent $200 on supplies and 3 days so I figure its worth not having to deal with it
