I drove a 93 Ford Ranger Splash. Still have it and it still runs great with 155,000 miles.

1993 iNFINIT j30t, 72K miles, black on black.

New G35 sedan, black on black

Holding on to the J30t as the dealer would give me nothing for it

Will refurb somewhat for my daughter to have in a few years unless someone makes me an offer I can't refuse.

Before I got the G35 Coupe, I drove a Subaru WRX. It was also a very fun car to drive.

Well, my first car was a fully loaded '93 corvette (40th anniversary), then I sold it and bought a stripped out Toyota tacoma when I left for college. I slowly turned the tacoma into a sport truck over the years. I also owned two sport bikes, which I sold (Yamaha FZR 600 & Yamaha R6). Now I have a loaded G35c 6M/T on order.

All I can say is that I have never driven a car that even came close to the feeling of the Corvette (especially a luxury car) until I took the G35 on a few test drives. The only performance improvement I could ever ask for was increase acceleration. It's not that the car is slow, it's just that I'm use to the power to weight ratio of the Corvette and the R6 <---both are very quick.

I'm a reciently graduated mech. & aero. engineer who spent several years on a team designing, manufacturing, and racing a small scale indy-style race car in national competition, so when I look for a car to purchase I expect a lot. Since I didn't have $60,000 for an M3 the choice for me was obvious. The G35. :D

Hi everyone I'm new to the group here but I've been reading the posts for a while. I just got a G35 coupe 6MT diamond/willow with aero kit and Premium. I had an Acura Integra GS-R that's lease was up and I thought this car was a perfect upgrade.....considereing they are totally different but both great cars. I have a few comments and questions for the group here but I'll post them separately later.

There seems to be a lot of people in this group with a lot of knowledge and useful advice, I'm glad to be part of this.

Welcome Jay

There are alot of people here who wish to share their vast car knowledge and wisdom. I however, am one of those people with little car knowledge unfortunaetly. I have learned much since I joined up though.

Congrats on the G35. It is a truly wonderful car to own. You need post a few pics. I don't recall having anyone on here with the diamond. I have a laser red coupe with willow interior.

Welcome to the group.

I've had a lot of cars, but the one just before the G35 Coupe was an Eldorado ETC that I bought new in 99 - only got rid of it as it was plagued with electronic glitches, that I didn't want to deal with after the warranty ran out.

The G35 is however a lot more fun to drive, and from what I've seen in 7 months, a lot better quality. I have had a few issues with the Infiniti, but none of them are serious - just a little aggravating.

The biggest problem with the car is - it's so much fun to drive that it's hard to avoid traffic tickets!

Good luck . . . Stu

I agree with you on STOCK numbers, my alti wasn't stock; dyno chart available here: http://www.altimas.net/registr...d=225

oh and the 2002 i bought was advertised by nissan at 240 hp and 246 tq not 245 hp. when i was done with it, i had dyno'ed 240 torque and 234 hp AT THE MFING WHEEL or 300 hp at the crank (22% drivetrain loss/auto tranny)

ooo, u were the one that was trying to sell the altima werent you?, yours was (is) very kick ***, and yes, the o2's were rated at 24ohp, the o3's are 245hp, and damn 234hp at the wheels, ive seen some stock 35oZs barely hit those numbers, so did u sell the Altima and get the Black G35?

so far I have upgraded brake pads (metal matrix), K&N drop in, and removed the resonator on the exhaust (just barely starting) I have a Magnaflow 14830 dual tip muff on order

plan is 325-350 hp NA on pump gas, as much as it takes. for now the plan is: unorthodox pulleys, exhaust (custom w/headers (still researching them)), crawford intake, stock airbox, 350 mid, port/polished head (still researching that and what to do as far as cams)

the above should put me at around 325 whp with the right ECU setup. This is not unreasonable based on the untuned numbers of that graph I showed you earlier in the above post

But BEFORE all that, I need to tune the suspension a little more (sway bars, MAYBE lower it???). It is pretty damn good stock, but still have some understeer and body roll AND GET SOME DECENT TIRES

suspension tires, exhaust, intake will be done by next spring

engine work will be done based on the amount of overtime I get, probably take 2 years from now

I have already dropped 100 lbs at least from the car by stripping the trunk and losing the stock resonator. I can lose another 100 lbs by swapping the stock exhaust manifolds out for headers and dropinng 5-8 lbs per wheel with some SSR wheels

should be about 3400 lbs with me in it for dragstrip and about 3500 lbs with me for track racing

depending on my final hp and my fat *** losing some weight (I am 250#) I should run 12.6 to 13.5's when complete

my goal is to pick on corvettes and keep up but not necessarily beat them

That sounds like a kickass plan. I would love to do some stuff to my G, but I just don't have the cash. If I wouldn't have built that house...

Keep us posted on the work. You should post a few write-ups once you get started on what you've done and how you've done it, along with pics of the work.

Good luck.

any interest in a "change your own brakes" writeup? That is the only semi complicated thing I have done so far

i thought all you changed was the pads? unless theres some other way of doing it, i always thought of that as a 3o minute job, but fill me in, maybe im wrong, also, you say u aim for 12.6s to 13.5s, thats a pretty broad range, or is that a typo, cause with 12.6s, you'll be keeping up with zo6's

ummm, i resurfaced the rotors too, so the work I did pretty much encompasses everything and not just the pads. It IS a thirty minute job, if you catch the fact the rear left brake pads are different than the right rear pads

12.6-13.5 is a broad range. i am looking for balance of every day streetability, relatively low cruising noise, comfort and performance with an emphasis on performance. I will stop building the car at the point where I start to compromise streetability.

I KNOW i can hit 13.5's with bolt-ons and ECU, I don't know how much power is in the VQ's head yet (cams, valves, head machining), so the 12.6-13.5 range is all based on gut feelings.

from my altima experience, 260-280 whp is likely with bolt-ons, another 10-15 hp from a good ECU/fuel map/injectors/FPR, I hope for 50 hp from the head/cams/crawford plenum but I just don't know. the heads may take two tries on junkyard parts

The tranny is good for it (I will use the turbo'ed z's to watch the tranny lifetimes)

3400 lb car based on my performance numbers at the track stock280whp is a 13.3325 whp is a 12.7350 whp is a 12.3 @ 109
