Figured I'd start a thread about what everyone has done today. I'm kind of thinking the coolest thing or the most interesting(to you) thing that you've done.

I'll start it off.

I tore apart a PS3 that was making a horrible squealing noise. I diagnosed the problem as a fan bearing.

This is what you're greeted with when you first remove the cover:
Image

This is with the power supply, blu-ray drive, wireless and bluetooth chip, and power/eject circuit board removed:
Image

Here is where the fan lives. The metal surrounding the hole is composed of heatsink fins:
Image

Here is the old fan(left) compared to the replacement(right). The replacement is a used fan from a first production run unit. It has 19 blade instead of 15. The 19 blade moves about 10CFM more air while being quieter overall.

Starting at 0400 (central) I did the following:
-Rebuilt a full networking monitoring topology of 1800 devices.
-Diagnosed an ongoing problem with SNMP V3 traps and began drawing up a fix action.
-Hosted an engineering conference call for junior engineers to pick the brains of senior engineers.
-Flew back to Washington DC.
-Did the dishes I found in the sink when I got home.
-Drove to a buddies house to pick up a spare T50 transmission for the Rolla.
-About to head off to the shop to chop up the Rolla's fenders so that I can fit some new wheels/r-comps.

Dude! You are a beast! Everytime you talk about what you're doing it sounds like a hell of a lot of work!

What was the most interesting or coolest part?

Thanks.

Most interesting? I dunno, not much. The job is very stressful and extremely thankless. I work a lot of hours that I dont get paid for also. The best part of it is the long layovers where I can just sit in the airport bar, enjoy a guinness and talk to folks.

Coolest thing? I accepted an invitation to instruct at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (Loudon)in a couple weeks. My first time there. Got the hotel arrangements set up.

At this point, I think I'm driving my friend's modded S6. I'm also supposed to make a side trip with the beavertail to some place in upstate NY to bring home another car my friend is considering to buy. Should be a really fun trip. :dblthumb:

Skipped breakfast (like usual)
Went to work
Got yelled at by angry customers
Contemplated shooting up my work place
Ate lunch and smoked a cigarette
Got yelled at some more
Confirmed said plan of shooting up my work place
Now about to leave work

Edit: just in case anyone thinks I'm being serious, I wont shoot up my work place. Don't need this biting me in the a** haha.

Re-soldered the network cable connection to a DVR for a 16 camera bundle
Installed 2 gate operators and a control board from scratch
Dug a hole for conduit with a shovel, old school
Cursed and swore at myself for running the limit switches backwards and crossways in the panel
Harassed a delivery guy just for fun
Spent 1.5 hours in traffic to go only 23 miles
Stopped at Popeyes and ate the biscuit of glory
Got on the computer, found out Razi's name is Dave apparently (there can only be one)
Just told someone to get off my property cause they were holding a clipboard
Thinking of what to do tonight now

Yelled at Comcast (woke up to no internet for the second straight day after they assured me it would be up by noon yesterday).

Watches The Daily Show naked on the couch while eating a cold cheeseteak.

Went to Pep Boys in hopes that they might have a cheap clutch master cylinder that I could use for a few weeks until I replace it with an OEM part.

Laughed at said Pep Boys when I found out their part was $50 MORE then the Nissan one.

Yelled at my car.

Yelled at Comcast again (still no internet by then).

Listened to my car idle until my neighbors yelled at me (open headers sound godly on a V8).

Forgot to pick up my girlfriend.

Got yelled at for above mistake.

Overall, good Friday.

-Woke up
-Took a shower, and put on some business-casual clothes
-Hauled a** to my 2pm meeting in the next town 30 minutes away (I got too caught up in this TV show I watching and left later than I wanted to)
-Picked up a sammich on the way back
-Received compliment from cashier about my suit at sammich shop
-Changed clothes and ate while watching TV
-Picked up new video game (Lost Planet 2!)
-Went to Wal-Mart to find a picture frame for this:
Image
-Instead of finding said picture frame, I ran into a female friend and we talked for a while
-After receiving (and ignoring) a lecture on how Megan Fox was a "Slut Whore", me and friend hugged and parted ways (I can't wait 'till she comes over to my place to see the poster hanging right by my TV:naughty:)
-Purchased frame and positioned in apartment
-Made Dinner
-Ate Dinner
-Xbox/NICO/Facebook/MotorMavens/Speedhunters/G35Driver/Listening to Music (Yes, all at the same time. I'm a multi-tasker)

That's my day!

My in-laws had been visiting me last week, they drove down from NYC.

Father-in-Law managed to fall down my stairs and break his ankle, and my Mother-in-Law doesn't drive, so I had to spend 7 hours driving them back home from DC yesterday (bad traffic). Luckily, I happen to like them a lot, and it got me out of the office, so not all bad.

Now I'm sitting at JFK waiting to fly home, posting on NICO and drinking an ito en. They JetBlue terminal at JFK is really nice. They have Muji! I bought some mechanical pencils and an umbrella.

One-way rental followed by flight? Sounds like a day at the office anyway...
