to celebrate my best friends purchase of a 95 240SX I treated him to a carwash and a sunday drive/race... we washed the cars, then washed the motors... I covered the air filter and battery, the distributer cap has the stock cover on it (KA motor) and it looked beautiful, and rode just fine.... about 4 hours later, it died... now I can crank it, but it'll die... if I keep on the gas, I can drive it, but the second i let off it idles at 100RPM, and if I dare turn the steering wheel, she just dies on me... a friend sugested that i reset the computer, it costs like 40 bucks to rent the machine and he'll charge me 20 to do it... and he thinks that will solve the problem... does anyone else have any suggestions? I checked the intake (injen) and all the hoses are connected, I looked at the motor and no vacuum hoses seemed to be disconnected... I let it sit for 12 hours and still the same problem.... its slow, and wont rev past 4500-5000RPM in neutral.... plus the brake light inside is on (but then again, I need new brakes.....) Please help....

you have moisture trapped somewhere. either in your spark plug wells, in your connections to one of the sensors,i.e. coolant temp, airflow,IACV,crank angle,ect....look for moisture

a quick way to reset your ecu would be to pull off the negative battery cable, wait like 10-15 sec, put it back on and start it up. everythang should be reset, your clock will be off, lose your presets on your deck but might as well give it a try...

ya man, u might have some moisture trapped in your dis. i had this happened to me once. what i did was moved the car to a spot where i know nobody would bug me and i just reved the motor to about 2500 rpm and just let it sit there for a long time till the motor ran just fine. now and then just let go to see if your motor still wobboles/dies out. it took me about 1hr and 30 min. to get the water all out. after that it ran like a champ

I have done this several times cleaning my engine bay. I got water in my spark plug wells and distributor. I just opened the hood, popped out the wires and let the sun evaporate the moisture. If the car has been previously ran sometimes you just pop off the wires and the heat will evaporate the moisture. I let the car sit for a couple hours and come back later. Nick

check your vacuum lines toovacuum leak has the same symptoms.

If moisture has gotten inside any of the sensor plugs it can change the reading the computer sees from the sensor thus making it run like crap. If you don't have moisture in any of the ignition system you may want to look in as many plugs as you can find. Take an air hose and give them a shot to clean them out.

why dont you just check the self-diagnosing ECU when it dies out. it should send a code or something that you can read.

don't feel so bad i blew my poor car up and it hasn't even hit 50,000. i was heading up to go snow boarding and it was the first time i have ever taken it up i-70 to the resorts and iwas in fifth coming up on a car in the right lane so i put it in 4th and got up in front of the car on my left shifted fifth and went to get over around a right hand turn so it was leaning me left i was doing like 75 and when i looked back the car next to me had sped up so i was going to down shift 4th but i wasn't paying enough attention and down shifted in to second dropped the clutch and hit in a split second but it was to late my tires locked up my engine back fired a couple times and just bogged so i pulled over to look for a blown rod or head gasket luckily nothing but when i got in and crancked it it was like the plugs were out so i took my oil cap off and looked at my cam and my freind turn it over and sure enough snapped or threw my chain so inow it is time to make a decision ond rebuilding the ka or saving and suffering not driving my baby for a couple months and doing a rb25 swap but that was my stupid wreckless driving story that ruined my perfect car.

damn bro im sorry... I finally fixed the problem... we connected it to a computer, and it read everything fine (except it wasnt recieving any input from the trans lol (5speed swap) said the idle was reading high.... all the vacuum hoses were fine, and everything was cool... so i took the intake off, and discovered a villiage of CRAP in my throttle body... so i took some carb spray stuff, sprayed the **** out of it, and cleaned it with a toothbrush... took a few seconds before it cranked, but when it did, all the crap from inside came out... this is the first time ive ever seen my car bust a nut... then the idle was too high (because i set it there hoping the problem would fix itslef... i set it back down to 700, and the car runs like its brand ****ing new!!!!! this would have happened even if i hadnt pressure washed the motor...thanx to all who replied... I appreciate all the help, and im glad i kinda discovered another solution to idle problems....

whatever man! the 240 community is a big family. and all of our children are these noisy rambunctious things that don't always behave, but as much as we worry about them we can't help but love them...even when they do leave skid marks all over stuff :D
