If I have a 97 240sx with an SR20 in it, what application would i look for in buying an intercooler. Im assuming I would need one for a 97 240sx. Is this wrong?, should I be looking for an intercooler for an SR20 regardless of my make and model? Basically, what determines the application of the intercooler?

You can use any intercooler made for a S14 chassis. However, intercoolers range in size, fitment, and price.

Just depends how much you want to spend and how much power you wanna get out of your SR20.

Cooling power and lag both increase as you increase IC size.

you shoulda seen this powerstroke IC i saw the other day. 42" long core....but it'd lag until next wednesday.

Any application for an import 2.0-3.0 should work well. Plenty of stuff out there.

You don't 'need' one but they're very helpful in keeping intake temps down, popular FMICs used are the HKS and Blitz. I have the HKS type-S, it's good to something like 450-500hp which is good for me for now. It's an all-round good IC. Check out http://www.phase2motortrend.com for good prices on ICs, or anything for that matter. Or you could get a starion or GTR FMIC and have piping made. There's many options, just use the search button and see what comes up.

Thanks for all the feedback. Im planning on doing work to the SR down the road so I just figured Id get the intercooler now, on the stock SR (S13) motor. Maybe I should spend my money elsewhere......lsd, clutch. Any suggestions? Just a stock SR.....clutch, intercooler, lsd......which two are the most worth it?

your 97 doesn't have an lsd already? I assume you have an exaust, intake and blow off (the basics) Then get a boost controller, makes a hell of a difference, then intercooler, then clutch maybe...all personal preference

Hi,

If you want a awesome intercooler for a budget based price range, check out the Hybrid Power Intercoolers out of Australia. You can typically purchase them for under $500 and the size is 600x300x76, larger than a Skyline GT-R stock intercooler. Should be good for up to 650HP. Hybrid typically has an auction or two going on Ebay, so look there. I would highly recommend their stuff, we are running them on the RB series 240sx's we build.
