As some of you know I just finished my CA instal 2 weeks ago, Since day one it has always bogged (engine starts working twice as hard and accelerates half as fast) when I give it too much gas. Then once the turbo kicks in its VROOOM! and I'm gone. A freind had me try the old NGK plugs that it came with instead of the new bosch plat+2 plugs I had installed and it helped alot, but it still does this and its soooo frustrating!-I have already done the timing, and I'm using 91 octane. It's not impossible that I have missed a boost leak, but I have tightened everything. -Any Ideas? anyone? ....oh by the way I desperately need moon/sun roof hinges...if anyone has a line aon a pair. :arcadefre  :help

Autolite AP or APP3924. I have used them for years without issue.

I might be able to help you with your problem,

Ca18det have individual throttle bodies type of thing right on the intake, the are located on the intake close where it bolts on to the head, these work on vaccum, the way it works, is if you are running at low rpm, these throttles are closed , but when you push the car, the vaccum sucks a selonoid and it opens these throttles in order to get more air going into the engine. If these aren't opening, the car will bog down.

I am assuming that is your problem, taking in consideration that you have checked your timing, afm, tps...etc

Good luck,

interesting thing about when I went into BAP import parts, the told me theat the 4 cyl CA18et has 2 sets of 4 spark plugs with different heat ranges - not that are availible for the engine, but that are actually used in the engine to run! I replaced them with the lower heat range of NGK iridium XI, and it runs the smae as the iridium that it came with, timing was 15deg atdc. But explaine this vaccum thing , I think that may be the culprit.

I will try to take some pictures of an extra intake I have and post it, in order to show you what I am talking about.

Check for an old post by me. I posted up a picture of how to hook up the Butterflies by running a vacuum T from the Fuel Pressrue regulator.

I believe if you search under Swirl Control Valve you should find it.

Oh, OK! there is the rack of 4 little 1/4 inch metal tubes that conect to the little hoses, that connect to the little plastic canister. The hoses are color coded at the tips where they connect to the tubes? I have the red on top, the next one is unconnected, then green , then blue? - there is a connector missing on the plastic canister rig - we could'nt figure the wiring does anyone know what the wire colors are that go to it ? or where the 2nd vaccum line connects to?...or am I retarded I cant put a name to the plastic cannister thing...:bonghit

ok you only have 3 vacum ports to use. if that.

the one on the back goes to the FPR,and the squirel valve thing

the one bhind the throttle plate assembly goest to the boost gauge, n BOV.

the one under the throttle body can be blocked off or used to control the squirel valve thing. (its really the variable intake runner controls)

now those little hard pipes can be removed they are basicly useless.

I would also like to add that you can hear his turbo a lot, which leads me to think that he might have a boost leak--I rode in a stock SR yesterday, and you can't hear the turbo, like, at all...

Any particular place to check for a leak?

My turbo was loud also. Louder than my friend SR S13. I had no leaks. I had a KN filter though.
