Taco Bell Employee Spots Own Stolen Car in Drive-Thru

A Taco Bell employee who dropped his car off at the dealership to be serviced was surprised to see it a few hours later when the mechanics who were supposed to be fixing it drove it through his drive-thru.

According to ABC News, last week a Taco Bell employee named Randy Jones dropped his car off at a Nissan dealership to be serviced, then went on to his shift at the restaurant. A few hours later, however, Jones was at the drive-thru when he saw his own Nissan 350Z pull up to the speaker and place an order. Two of the dealership’s mechanics had allegedly taken Jones’ car out for an illicit spin and decided to pick up some tacos on the way, not expecting to run into the car’s owner in the drive-thru.

"I was just livid in my mind, you know, having something like that happen to you," Jones said. "My heart was racing because I'm like I'm not paying them nearly $300 just to drive from Riverside to Moreno Valley in my vehicle."

Jones was furious, and the dealership manager said both mechanics have since been fired for their Taco Bell run. Jones’ vehicle was taken to a different dealership and serviced for free by way of apology.

Hmm, I don't think I would have been all that mad. I mean, if they put gas in it, and didn't spill any re-fried beans in the interior, why does it matter? I'm the kind of person who wants other people to drive my car though.

If the repair was done, I would have just asked them to leave it at Taco Bell, like they delivered it.
They can take the bus home.

SO I guess the owner didn't realize that after a fix, sometimes the car needs a road test, huh...

It doesn't sound like the car was stolen, and a joy ride to Taco Bell? Hahahahahaaa :lolling:

just a quick google map shows the taco bell being about 15 miles away from the dealership. That seems like a lot of road testing.

I guess all road tests never have to be more than a couple minutes?

The owner used the specific word "service", that implies something fairly routine. Additionally, as slipshod as dealerships service departments are in order to process as many vehicles as possible I'd be surprised if they ever performed a fifteen mile test drive when it was truly warranted.

You're assuming that a repair was done that needed a road test. I'm guessing the repair performed did not need one. Besides the betrayal of trust to a customer with unauthorized use of the car, those "joyriders" put the dealer at risk for a lawsuit if anything bad were to happen while they were on that fast food run. And to make matters worse, Taco Bell fueled swamp gas is toxic enough to burn itself into upholstery. :)

Well, its 15 miles from the stealership, making it a 30 mile round trip.
In all my years as a mechanic, we never took a car for a 30 mile test drive.

Sounds like the dealer made the right call firing the two joyriders and trying to make amends with the customer.

Wow. How does a kid working at Taco Bell own a 350z and get it serviced at the dealer? And they need $15 an hour?

Perhaps, but 350z's are no longer expensive cars to acquire. Heck, mine is 12 yrs old already.

The high mileage ones are. They will soon displace the S chassis, once they rest of them are destroyed. There's got to be like 6 left.

But if that's the case then why is he paying for stealership service?

This one^ made the national news as well as going viral. In this age of instant internet shaming, this dealer did not do enough to repair the damage they caused. The employee had to get terminated, duh. But the woman's radio not only was still unfixed, plus had 200 miles put on it for a radio repair, and presumably a half tank less of gas. The service manager also blew it hugely by blowing her off. He should probably lose his job too. The owner of the dealer (not a sales manager) needs to step in and make thnigs right at this point. They don't need to replace her car as the owner requested, but at the very least, they should pay for her radio repair (performed by another dealer), reimburse her the gas/mileage they used, and apologize formally. The Monica Lewinsky effect can impact a business hard. The dealer needs to recognize that. I can't imagine anyone seeing that report will want their Kia serviced there.
