What could be causing a code 34 (knock sensor)?

The knock sensor basically means the pistons are miss firing right? The car is running rough idle so it was tested and got a knock sensor code. What causes this and how can you fix it?

p.s. i searched and found nothing :-(

Knock Sensor detects engine knock and retards the timing preventing damage to the engine. It will cause a powerloss and some hesitation in the upper rpms around 5500rpm range. If your thorwing the code your knock sensor is probably bad. It's located on side of the block, between the intake manifold. You can try and find a used one from 240s/4th gen maximas part #s are the same or get a new one around 100- from nissan. Here is a link of a picture of the ks and harness and even a more detailed description.. http://www.courtesyparts.com/M...0-S14

umm, your engine could be knocking?

If you replace the sensor and you still get the code I would suggest you have the lower end of your motor looked at. It could be nothing but If you throw a rod or something you will definatly not be happy.

The engine is idle'ing rough not pinging so I know its not going to throw a rod, ive had that happen to me before :-) This is just a car im looking at right now and its pretty cheap just wondering how much it would cost to fix, how bad it is, or if its even worth it.

CHECK YOUR HARNESS!!! The harness can be enough to set the code, and with the aging KAs in the S13 you will probably find 9 times out of 10 that you have a break in it or (especially) the sub-harness, I did some research, and apparently it happens all the time, no one seems to know why. Anyway, it is only 40 bux from the dealer for new.

My knock sensor was quite broken. Caused power losses on the high end and some stutter with throttle changes.
