Where does this elbow hook up to? I'm assuming thats where the stock oil cooler is connected but since I don't have one where should I route this elbow? Is everyone elses block like this?

I had that hose split on mine just the other day. That's a crank breather, that connected via a metal pipe and two rubber hoses to the back of the intake cam cover.

I took a photo, which is lucky for you :-)My CA18det is a later model, and has a factory Oil cooler.

Thanks man, Just to make sure we're on the same page, Is this the port that it connects to on the back of the valve cover?

it's a freshly rebuilt engine, i'm gonna do what i read that float does and run it hard for the first 20 miles then change everything all out to break it in. Out of curiousity, what's bad about FRAM filters anyway?

oh yeah and thanks dattodude you've helped me out a lot.

make sure you put a quality hose with good clamps on that elbow. That thing is near impossible to change once the motor is in.

Fram are notorious for crap, look at the Fram section here for example.

also here.

This is a reputation of cheapness and poor construction they have earned over the past 15-20 years at least.. sure you might not have a problem but our OE Nissan filters are built so much better and really don't cost that much, I'll take my OE filter vs Fram or any other "aftermarket" filters any day.

I always keep one or two on hand so I don't have to make a last minute rush to Nissan to do an oil change

^^ I second that.. Fram filters are crap. search google for oil filter test or something and you'll see that they are not good.
