They are currently silver and look pretty so so, so I was thinking of painting them. I don't want to make it look too ricey but it would be nice if they stood out a bit more.

I am also thinking about getting these dirt cheap (price wise, quality looks pretty good) Nissan/Nismo decals off Ebay to spruce them up a bit. Has anyone ever used these?

So, there are vast colour choices, I was thinking maybe painting the calipers black and getting the 'brushed finish' look decals, which I think would look pretty sweet. I was also thinking maybe redish-orange calipers with white decals. Too many choices, I'm just not sure what to go with.

Also, is it necessary to remove the entire caliper when painting or can I just paint around them with the wheel off?

When (a hundred years ago) I painted a set of calipers, I took them off the wheel to do it. By off the wheel, I don't mean off the car though. Tip: don't let them hang by the brake line, get a block to place them on. Undo the brake line and you'll have to bleed the brakes.

Also Color = Red. IMO

Yeah. Fire engine red. Stickers probably wont last. Parts in that area get super hot. I would just take the whole caliper off. Clean it. Then paint it. I would check and see if you need new rotors and breaks before you paint the calipers. Kill a few birds with one stone if need be.

You don't need to take the whole thing off, just clean it well and sand it lightly then make sure you tape it up very carefully. I did 3 coats and everywhere I go people are always asking about them.

I only just recently had the pads changed and i know the rotors dont need changing.

I was just going to take the wheel off and paint them still attached, completely removing them is alittle bit more work then i had wanted. So you just left them on the rotor?

Yeah i was in the shower thinking. Don't take it all the way off. Leave the hose connected. It's early sorry. I beleave it's only 2 bolts. I took my rotors off and took off 2 bolts. The caliper will just be attached by a hose. Should be easy to clean and paint it from there.

I too have been thinking about doing this but havnt really looked into it a lot yet. So here is my question.... What kind of paint do you use to do this. I kow thikngs get pretty hot down there and wasnt sure if I need to get a special paint for it.

Sorry not trying to Hijack your thread just didnt see the need to start a new one since this topic is already active.

There are caliper paint kits / cans of caliper paint that I believe Duplicolor makes. You can also use just high temp paint like Engine enamel. Awhile back a friend of mine used just regular automotive Duplicolor, it worked fine, he just had to reapply it roughly every 6 months because it baked off.

Ok i'll set everyone straight here. No reason to unbolt anything just take the wheel off. No one will see the back of the calipers so its not worth the trouble. The caliper paint kits are not worth the money. Just get high temp engine paint and sand lightly and make sure the area is really clean, then do three coats, 2 light and 1 medium. No fading on mine they stay clean too.

NO red for stock calipers. I love the look of the dupli color "universal gold". Thats what color mine are painted. Not too flashy, nice and subtle, but noticeable.

Did you remove the calipers before you painted them?

I'm actually tossing up between Brembo orange with with red decals or, wait for it, lime green with black decals like a certain other members G37.

I removed them from the brackets, but didn't remove the brake lines. Please don't put any decals on the stock brakes either.

300ZX and older Skyline models came with decals on stock (standard) calipers (Nissan decals) so I really don't see the problem.

I'd only put them up front anyway.

He gave his recommendation about stickers. But you have already made up your mind. Personally i think calipers get way too hot to want to apply stickers to. Specially ones from ebay.

If you want to stand out get RED. If you want to look different get Gold. Personally i think any metallic color would go good.

If you like the lime green thats up to you. Also if you might want a stand out color consider the teal color that Project mu uses on their calipers.

If you want the whole caliper painted then you will remove it. If you only want the side that people will see painted then you wont have to remove it. It's up to you.

+1 on the engine enamel/high temp paint. I use the primer too. It will smooth out the ruffness of the casting. I've also recently tried a kit for calipers that you brush on. It ended up providing the thickest coverage and best finish. You can tape them up or take them off, but taking them off takes about the same amount of time and provides better results.

+1 on the red!

I don't remember every see anything like that. I know the z32 calipers, R32, R33 calipers have NISSAN on them, but that ain't no sticker my friend. The only other brakes that have stickers are BBK's, like Brembo...

Yeah, I know, I know they arent stickers, I was purely referring to the fact they have text.

If I can find more professional decals then I will probably use them.

I'm not sure if I'd go with red...it just doesn't seem to match the rest of the car. I'll edit this post when I come up with a good color besides black.

For your car, I'd stick with Gold or Green.

Red doesn't match the silver IMO
