As I'm fixing the front end damage on my 240 I'm trying to decide what color to paint my car...

Its a burgundy color and it has pretty good paint. Right now I need the bumper, hood, quarter panel, and headlight cover painted and I really doubt it would be worth it tracking down the parts in the right color.

So do you think I could get the panels color matched? Should I just repaint the entire car? Flat black? I had a flat black MR2 before project silvia came along (I think) so would you consider me a poser? I just graduated highschool so take into consideration the $9.25 an hour factor.

id go for the flatblack but maybe do something a little glossier than just flat.. but if its just until you get a good paint job then it probably wouldnt matter that much

hmm im afraid to vote, cause I just don't know exactly what your looking to do...Im getting my panels color matched myself, im repainting both bumpers, eyelids, grill, and possibly hood.

just fyi: from what ive heard I wouldnt paint your car primer just b/c the fact primer absorbs moisture, and promotes rust if left on a daily driver.(however I do love the flat black look, esp when its done right with professional satin paint) :oX

Just keep in mind if you flat black it now you will have more prep then you really need. When I bought my paint I got OMNI, PPG's cheap brand and it was $85 for a whole gallon. I think with Dupont self etching primer (stripped car before paint), OMNI Silver base and clear I think I had $300 bucks wrapped up in it.

I'd try to get the panels and stuff color matched first...and then when you have more money you can get the whole car painted whatever color you want. I'd have to go with white

Well whenever the car actually does get a new paint job it will be the same burgundy color. I like that color and I dont think I could live with a non matching engine bay. Could I find a place to do a color match with the 14 year old paint I have? What I mean is, would they have to paint panels with the color the car originally came with? As good as the paint is it is likely that it was a slightly different shade on day 1.

Well, I have burgundy headlight covers... - email me (in my profile) if interested.

With all the parts you need painted, you might as well just get the whole car painted, will cost almost the same as color matching.

Or you can just do a silvia conversion now, haha.

Painting the whole car flat black would only make the prep work that much harder when you got it re-painted down the road. Get color matched.
