I'm undecided on what clutch i'm going to have to upgrade this winter when i rebuild my engine.

I want to try for ATLEAST 500whp, but i want it on the higher side of that.

I'm currently pushing about 320-350whp out of a gt2871r.

I have a spec stage 3 6 puck clutch and i love it, doesn't give me any problems, no bad smells during clutch pops or anything.

But Specs stage 5 is gonna be retarded to use and the stage 4 isn't good enough.

So what do you guys use for higher hp applications that won't kill your foot dailying?

I use ACT xtreme pressure plate, and ACT street disc, and Stainless Steel clutch line. Good for over 400tq, and very streetable.

again I will inset comments on the white bunny. With the right pressure plate and clutch disc(I'd look into aftermarket 280zx turbo clutch kits) and a d21 flywheel.. I can bark 4th with shyt from autozone just dumping it, and my total was under 200 dollars.Thats with lifetime replacement on flywheel/and clutch kit. The d21 clutch can hold 300+ IIRC

What flywheel do you have in the car now? If its a SPEC wheel as well you can upgrade to a 9 1/2" clutch pressure plate that holds more then the 9" KA unit. However if you don't have the flywheel you can always consider a stage 3+ which is rated for 485 FT lbs of torque at the crank. The upgraded 9 1/2" unit in a stage 3 is rated for 515 Ft lbs. Either direction you decide to go feel free to give me a shout. Im always here if you have questions..

Clutches are rated for tq, not HP.

If you want to push a 55-60mm turbo to 500whp, you will have more torque than pushing a 65mm turbo to 500whp at less boost and later boost threshold.

After a lot of research, I bought a South Bend Stage 5. Even with a chromoly flywheel, it is very smooth to drive but is rated for 475 tq.

I have it at 20psi on a BW S256 with no issues.

I would recommend this setup or a Spec with the upgraded diameter.

Good luck with your decision.

agreed I am using a rb20 flywheel and a stage one dxd clutch which is rated at 433 ft/tq the stage 2 is rated at 500ft and 3 I think was at 575ft.

in terms of cost this a really good setup, you get a 250mm disk(i think that is what the 350z are) and the rb20/25/early 26 flywheels are fairly cheap if you get a used one (got mine for 30 bucks). if you get a billet/aluminum (300-600) they are more expensive but they should still be really good.

So is the rb20 flywheel and the 350z clutch a bolt on thing? No modifications or anything?

Yea its no problem.

My rb20 blew a timing belt idler so it has bent valves. So I threw my sohc back in for a few weeks, and I just put my whole clutch assembly on it.

But I have a 300zx clutch which is 240?mm I think. Its just a little smaller then a 350z setup. But both are interchangeable.

I have a stage 2 300zx clutch and its really nice. DXD southbend rocks and I will never buy another clutch.

You have to have a rb20 flywheel though. It has a 6 bolt crank like the KA's. The rb25/26 have 8 bolt flywheels which wont work. But other then that its all bolt up and no mods.

Sooo Let me get this straight.

I finish building my ka. I put a rb20/25 flywheel and a 350z clutch(does that include the whole clutch? I would have to use a ka pilot correct..?)

I just want to make sure that i'm getting everything because I don't wanna buy something that doesn't work..

I just did this swap. Used an rb25 flywheel, a stock 350z pressure plate, clutch disk , throw out bearing and pilot bushing. It all bolted right in and works perfect. Did not even have to adjust my pedal. There were no KA parts involved.
