You have to tell them all your mods. Like I said if you are just starting out you might be able to drive in a stock class until you get a hang of things. Even if you put spring on your car that aren't ment for your car you still have to tell them. Example putting S14 springs on a S13 car, don't know if it will work but thats just an example. When I put on my LSD I had to bump up to the STS class.
Also they sometimes give you a sheet and depending what you check for mods determines your class. Little things like carbon fiber body panels and removing seat could bump you up to the highest classes. A turbo kit puts you in the highest class even if everything is stock. Hope this helps. Nick
