what causes a harsh shifting

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

No shifting problems here on my '08.

For question 1, I don't think I can help you out much. Maybe you can see if a dealership can update the software, or bring it in to a transmission specialist for a diagnosis.

For question 2, the transmission in your 2010 was designed to be 'maintenance free', with a 'lifetime' fluid. However, it is still possible to replace the fluid. Due to the lack of a dipstick, it's just harder to do than it was on earlier models.

If you're planning to do the fluid change yourself, check out page 145 of the transmission section of the service manual:
http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/EX/2010/TM.pdf

Here are a couple of threads on the G37 forum that discuss the ATF changes:
http://www.myg37.com/forums/general-tec ... -find.html
http://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-coupe/2 ... fluid.html

Good luck and please let us know how it goes.

Check Nissan if they can do it. I spent $147 just for the ATF alone (14 qts) .
Nissan told me they will do it for $179 , but mine is a 5 speed AT.

When I filled up my transmission with the proper amount of ATF after removing 14 qts of old ATF, the shifting is more precise and has less hesitation.

I believe if if you have a 7 speed AT, you can buy a charging kit to pump a new ATF under the pan. It comes with diffrent size hole to fit on the charging port underneath. Ther is also a drain port under the pan so you can measure how many qts of oil removed.

New ATM makes a lot of difference in the way the transmission enggage smoothly. I replaced my old ATF when it was 70k miles.

Had similar issue, coming out of a stop or trying to give it gas after a turn it wouldn't respond smoothly more like jerked. I was low trans fluid added some fluid and it was smooth sailing again. By the way trying to read level on the dip stick is a pain, for me at least.

C.LOS... i have the exactly same problem!!!!!!!!

the hard shifting happens everytime when you come to a stop (just 1 second before the stop) . and it wont happen if you give a hard brake. and it is also the same you feel a shutter or hard shifting when making a turn... I already got my transmission fluid changed by someone and I can feel the transmission is very responsive but i still have all the harddown shifting problem)

Looks like the EX is real touchy about fluid level. Might want to double check level again just to make sure, it's a lot of fluid that should be in there. How much did your guy charge you? Because on fluid alone it gets pricey

I got it changed by a local transmission guy and he told me he ordered all ATF from Nissan and he charged me $134

Hey

You will recall I had notice hard shifting as well, from R to 1 and 1 to 2. Just came back today from the dealership. The tech found it was shifting beautifully and smoothly. Could not replicate. He suggested an intake cleaning and trans reset, but why do so if it was shifting beautifully? Yet, i still asked him to change the trains fluid. He mentioned it was a little brown but fine but did the change. $350 later and I do find it is smoother. I'll need to check it carefully again tomorrow.

I can report that the shifts are smoother....I think. They are definitely smooth, so I am happy. I never believed in fluid that are supposed to last the life of the car....

A German car? Not sure if I am that courageous. I have money, but I don't want to waste it either. Perhaps lease one and return it once the warranty is done? These are disposable cars, those German...

Yes, but I did only the transmission flush.

I did the intake cleaning last October and that did help with engine smoothness, but not with the hard shifts. I never did the reset. Only the flush in June and I did see a big difference with ththe shift. Now they are almost imperceptible. But I want to see in the winter cold to see if the shifts will continue to be as smooth as I had notice the hard shifting more in the cold of winter.

Glad to hear that you. Since the last time I got my fluid checked , it is getting much better but you can still feel it, just not as strong as before. Maybe i should try to do a flush too and hopefully it is caused by the trans fluid

Thanks for your help.
