I'm sorry. Those numbers must be wrong. There is absolutely no way insurance would cost 6-9k per month. I doubt it could cost that much per year. You need to call your insurance agent again and check those figures.
BTW, most insurance companies don't care if you consider it a pure-bred sports car or not, they look at the driver (record and experience), the costs to replace vehicle (if full coverage), and the statistics of your area. Some companies may look at the type of car, and in the case of 240s, they would see 2 door, rwd, popular for non-commuter activities (street racing, drifting)- not saying thats right, fair, or accurate, just saying they're looking at the statistics, not whether you believe the car is worthy of the "sports car" moniker.If you want to reduce the premiums, have your son complete a defensive driving course. It might also be advisable to check into other insurance companies as well.
