You nailed it. I polish maybe twice a year, Spring & Late fall. Wax quarterly. Polishing and than waxing by hand can be pretty time consuming. With the machine you can do it in about 80% less time. I haven't waxed by hand for so long, I can't remember how long it takes by hand. Appying wax to my car by machine takes under 10 minutes.

The machine is more effective removing swirl marks or other damage. The darker your paint, the more damage you will incur over time (well, you'll notice it more, all cars get swirl marks, etc). Using polish by hand, you just can't work out issues the occur to the paint.

I always thought polish is like cleaner/shiner, and wax is well… just a protective shield, so I would only use polish and wax like maybe every 4-5 polishes. Also is there a huge difference between machined polished/waxed and hand polished/waxed quality. I don’t mine taking time to do things manually by hand, but if there’s a quality difference, I am thinking of getting the porter cable. I want my car to shine enough to blind a person during daylight.

Yup, That's how I do it! applying wax with a buffer can sometimes lead to "burning" the paint . Some buffers you can not control the RPMs. Also make sure you get a random orbital buffer. They don't leave swirl marks.

This is why you want something along the lines of the Porter Cable. Completely adjustable speed & no burn in. Just keep the pad flat on the surface & you shouldn't have any problems. In between full wax & polishes, I use the Eagle One Wax as U Dry spray. It's real nice for upkeep on a good quality wax job.
