So I was crusiing with my friends in my new baby Sunday afternoon...and there was this mid-aged guy driving an old-school look car right next to me at the redlight... i have seen most of cars on streets but I have never seen that car before.. so naturally .. we decided to give it a little run (its not street racing since both of us didnt go over the speed limit knowing that there were lotta cops around)..... and .. i got my *** smoked from begining to end BADLY.... well. i didnt floor it or turned my VDC off but i had a feeling that his car is real powerful..

So i went home and did a searched on Google and finally. i found the picture of this car..

Can anyone tell me the spec of this car ? (HP, 0 - 100km/h, make, ??!?!?!)

It is not that I'd see him again or anything but I am kidda interested to know if I'd ever stand a chance to outrun him with my 04 Coupe 5AT.....

more like a kit! you dont see the real thing on the road! they ar 500,000+ and one sold for over a million on the barret auction. factory 5 racing sells them. you can buy the kit for 12k and throw any motor in it. some have 300 hp some have 500 some even have 600. depends on what you want to build. they are super light and even the 300hp cars run low 12's. when your pushing 500 you in the low 11's and will smoke almost anything on the road with 0-60 times in the low 4's high 3's with a good driver. one of my all time fav cars. when i have another garage bay its the car i would love to build with my son! you can find very nice well build ones on ebay from 30k up to 50k

+1 for Brian!!

That has got to be a kit...the real cars are crazy $$$ but even the kits are fast.

Super light...8/10 times our G wouldn't stand a chance.

Yeah, almost definately a kit car. Where in Toronto were you? If you were down around the Bridle path at Bayview and lawrence then it might have been the real deal. It always amazes me every time I drive through there at the size of some of those mansions.

it is a kit. i can tell 100% from the pic. but a very nice car. i am in love with this car! i raced one with a 427 with around 580 hp and it almost beat my 1g dsm. my dsm runs 10.30's at 140 mph. 0-60 times in the 2.5-3's and this car kept right up to me to 120 mph untill he got scared and backed off. its such a small car and is like driving a go cart! very fun car to drive and turns every head driving by anyone!

Being in So. CA I've had the pleasure of actually pulling up alongside a REAL Shelby Cobra. It has always been my dream car ever since seeing it go head to head with a Ferrari In THE GUMBALL RALLY.

I asked the driver/owner what is what like to actually have/own one of these babies....he smiled and said it was everything you could hope for. I was sooooooooooooo jealous!

Wow... Pulling up next to a Shelby kit to race in a G is like bringing a feather duster to a gunfight.

Best way to tell is if it has vintage tags on it. May not always be definitive but if it doesn't have vintage or classic car tags on it, you can be pretty sure it's a kit.

well... i didn't know there is a replica for this car.. i stole the picture off the Internet so its not the real car that I saw on Sunday.... but the one i saw on Sunday kept making this explosive sound when the car slows down. .i am assuming it has something with the downshifting but i am not 100% sure here.....well.. i guess either I just made fun of myself on Sunday trying to give it a run with this guy..

Note: I live in North GTA and I saw this car on Bayview Avenue north of Steeles...

Hey G_whizz, next mod I am seriously considering in the MREV2, can you tell me a bit about your experiences with it. Worth it or not? Any solid numbers to compare, any thoughts at all you can share?

Thanks, sorry to divert the thread but it has been established he saw a Shelby, real or not.

And Smartidiot, the last post G_whizz made was directed to AZhitman.

Always know your competition. This guy is probably telling his friends about this Japanese car trying to F with him.

This car (the orig. not a kit like this one) is a true racing legend. There are about 2500 real Cobras that were built in the 90's using parts found in the warehouse they stored the parts during the production years. Those cars are a little cheaper then the orig. 65-66 Cobras but are just as fast.

As far as how they handle, you really have to know how to drive this car as it is very squirrely. But if you do know how to handle it it will dominate most cars on a track.

I normally don't extend information like this but I have riden in an original one of these but it was black with white racing stripes and I had the "I am not worthy bowing pleasure" to have been the passenger with Mr. Carroll Shelby himself at the wheel.

The Shelby family own the bank in Plano that my mom is Sr. VP of. Carroll's son Pat is the CEO of the bank. Meeting this man was a true highlight of my life as he is a REAL American legend.

And you are correct, the one in the picture is a kit but the one that raced him may not have been. Shelby still makes these in Las Vegas so they may still be on the road. Now you are correct that they are MEGA expensive!!!!

I would look at the guys appearance and you could tell if it were a kit or not. If he has on a solid gold Presidential Rolex then I would say it is the real deal if it was a Casio with a calculator on it then KIT KIT KIT!! Ha!

I have clients with Lamborghini's, Ferrari's and one with a Bugatti Veyron (but he won't drive it). Anyway, the shelby cobra is still the sweetest car I had sat and ridden in.

Interesting thing on the Bugatti, you have only 500 hp all of the time and then you have a key'd ignition type thing that you have to turn on to get the other 500 hp, turn the key and you have 1,000 hp under your feet. WOW! However, according to what I was told you can only drive that thing at full power for 15 minutes and then you run out of gas and tires as you would burn them up almost immediately.

Anyway, anyone who pays $1.3MM for a car that he doesn't drive is both crazy and FILTHY RICH!!!! Ha!

Hmmm. Bayview and steeles. I guess it is possible that the car you saw could have been the real deal. Maybe he was just leaving, or on his way back to his mansion.

alright.. so seems like I really made myself emabrrase by trying to outrun that Cobra whether its a real one or a kit...

so is it true that the real one will run 0 to 60MPH in less than 5 secs??

Until the Viper the Cobra held the record for going from 0-100-0 in in like 11.4 seconds. I think that record has been broken several times since but for almost 35 years it held that record.

Many race enthusist consider the 0-100-0 record the most import as it shows all of the most important aspects to a truely good race car.

0-60 in less than 5 seconds is not hard to get......many cars now do that.

i would say its possible for that cobra with some slicks and a good driver. there are many cars that run in the 8 sec range. but you will never get the best bang for your buck other than a dsm. <30k and you can have a <9 sec street killer

That is 0-100-0.

That means it goes from a stand still to 100 mph and then back to 0 again. Try it see how fast you can do it. And let us know how badly you beat the 11.4 mark.
