what can I salvage from a dead engine?

I am getting PalmerWMDs engine for my Q so I will have a dead engine on my hands(my original engine that locked up).

Is there anything in it that I can use later?

I was thinking of taking the plenum completely off and giving it the cleaning of its life so that it could one day be a replacement (for when I want to take the one on the working engine out to clean)

What else can be saved?

I'd save anything electronic (CAS, etc)... what happened to your engine? That has a lot to do with what's salvageable...

Plenum, valve covers, etc are a good idea... anything you clean when you have them off.

hitman, i got a spare TB i got from the junkyard (no TPS on it, though). why do you want one? i might keep it because there's a local guy who does polishing real cheap and i have a spare plenum with the TB. they'd look great together in the car.

ccol. I dont know what happened to the engine. It was either the timing chain guides, or the oil pump quit working and the engine locked.

Its good to know that there are things that I can take out and clean for future use. I want to have a spanking newish plenum and TB. The electronics would also be nice to keep

LongrunQ, I'm glad to hear you're getting Fred's engine. Don't forget to take out the injectors! Just grab the whole fuel rail. Always good to have spares, especially if they're not too old. Take the fan too if it's in good shape. And all those little metal clips for the harness connectors that inevitably get dropped onto the engine are good to have, as are metal screws for the plenum, ornamental covers, etc.

Since it's trashed anyway, you might disect it and see what happened. It'll sure give you an appreciateion for the Q engine! If you have one head that isn't scrambled, I'd save that too... especially if it's the left one - that's usually the one that bites the dust when the guides fail!

thanks for the extra ideas daedalus.

q451990, I would hate to dissect it and find that it was something minor that could have been fixed. If that happened I would be thrilled though

Experimentation, primarily.

Plus there's always 240 guys here in town looking for Q TB's (if I got bored playing with it).

I bought a plenum and throttle body off ebay that will arrive next week. I am going to polish the inside and outside as much as possible, then sell it.
