Brake pedal is very stiff and stopping power isn't as good as I thought it would be. also have a bit of a shimmy on the brakes

sounds like you should buy some new pads and re-surface your rotors.

new rotors( they're pretty cheap), new GOOD pads, new brakelines(stainless steel braides is ALWAYS a good choice), check your brake booster and master cylinder

if you REALLY want better braking just do thishttp://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=386360

Go through the entire braking system, starting at the calipers. New pads, new fluid, make sure rotors are new (or resurfaced), and lubricate sliders in calipers.

Stiff pedal + poor braking performance USUALLY means something is binding at the caliper.

to all of the above. But I also want to include the your tires have a big impact on your braking too. So make sure your have good tires. The stickier/wider, the better.
