Hello,

So I'm pretty new to this forum and have searched and searched and searched for anything explaining what can be deleted from the stock ca18det intake and what needs to be kept, but no such luck. I'm planing on making a custom manifold and I need to figure this out soon. If anyone could help, that would be awesome. Pics, ideas, etc etc..
Thanks guys!
Cheers

Try and keep everything! When you start removing things you will have weird idle or starting issues that just are not worth it IMO.

Well that makes it kind of hard if i'm doing a custom intake. I've been looking at some setups online but there is never any write up as to what they did exactly. I'm trying to eliminate as much crap as possible and make this motor as easy as possible to work on.

If you are going to be using a standalone engine management system, you can eliminate most of the ECCS components to include the butterfly valves. If you are going to be using the Nissan ecu and running no a/c, you can remove the a/c idle-up solenoid which is the one that sticks out at the highest point on your manifold. Other than, not wise to eliminate much with that Nissan ecu still in place.

Got ya. Well I'm going to just be running a fairly stock set up for now until the funds permit me to get my z32 maf, t28, injectors yada yada, but I was actually planning on going with either Nistune or Enthalpy. Would that make much of a difference?

Nistune uses the stock ECCS system so that wouldn't make any difference. You could just add all the flanges for the idle valve and such to the custom manifold tho.

Yea, if you're running the stock ECU at all (this includes ROM tunes and Nistune), you need to keep all of the stock idle control valves. The car will run like poo without them.

I see. So will these same rules apply if I just went with a power fc?

Actually I'll reword that. If I went with a power fc that would eliminate most of that junk?

What exactly are you trying to get rid of?

Basically anything that I can to make more room and clean up the bay. The motor is on the engine stand right now so I'd rather do all of this before it goes in.

It's a pretty simple engine as is. But really what Ryan, Dee, and I said kind of stands. You need to go standalone to really "delete" any of the stock idle controls. You can remove everything, then adjust your idle with the screw on the bottom of the throttle body (next to the pulley). But with this, you will have cold start issues for sure. I'm not sure how people eliminate them and the process of doing so with a standalone ECU. I think most people either take everything off and do what I just described, or run with the stock ECCS system and its components.

Dee and Ryan might chime in with their setups though since they are both using a SDS standalone system.

You can eliminate the coolant hoses running to the TB and rear of the intake manifold. Unless you've managed to get your hands on some brand new moulded pieces they're just gonna cause you headaches down the road when they split on you.

^^Truth on that! I blew ever single hose under the manifold. sucks lol Make sure you always run a high quality radiator cap FYI.

You're talking about the hose under the intake that has the metal decider in the middle of it? I've lost an rb because of those stupid things :/ do you just block them off?

google search Driftopia CA18DET water simplying. That will give you an idea of simplifying the water lines under the manifold.

With the all the idle control items, you can relocate them to under the plenum. You'll just need to decide where to mount them and if you are going to cut up your old manifold for the flanges. Meminto had relocated them (see post 304) - http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/inde ... 720&st=300

I have a standalone and I kept the stock fast idle valve undee the TB because it works so well. I also have an additional fast idle valve that supplements the stock valve and will come on with the A/C (if I ever get the A\C working).
