OK fokes here is my question......Which is rhetorical. What should I get first stance or shoes? I know I should get my stance on first but I have a limited budget (taxes). I really want coilovers but the wheels I want are pricey and about the same price as coils (high end). I want the m6 wheels on my s13 which I have never seen and would like to be on of the first to pull it off right. Ofcorse I need stance to pull it off but what would you get first?

If it were me, I'd do coilovers first. Nice wheels with tons of wheel gap looks poser-ish to me.

theres so many questions like this being posted now.
look guy, it doesnt matter what you get first...you know what they are and what they look like seperate, and you also know they go together. buy 1, put it in the closet or the garage, then buy the other...put them on at the same time. poof! its f*** magic.
i know a few card tricks too.

hey pj why dont you pick lotto numbers and post it too.. the you can disappear..........poof! Do you know 52 pick up? I get your point but it will probably be a minute before I get the other so leaving in the closet would not be practical. I could always cut springs or what not til I got coils and that would solve the poser look.

Maybe I will add that this car is a daily driver and not for drifting (at least not on a track).

good.
420sxWETDREAMS wrote:I could always cut springs.
well that is really not practical at all....seriously.

look man, between the two, coils is the priority. m6 wheels on 4x4 height is just silly...that much is obvious. so ill have to agree with simmode.
you got the silly response outta me because there was only 1 answer to your question.
now lets all have a fun time.

With a 18/19 combo like that you might be able to get away with lowering springs. Just don't complain when you start rubbing all over the place.

Then don't get coilovers. Get a nice spring/strut combo.

But if you want to be hella flush and super duper cool like all other the other 240 owners, get coilovers. I always laugh when people think they're steelies tucked, and slammed looks good.

You can still pull off a good looking car even if you don't have coilovers.

Example, razi's car. Clean and simple. If this is too much wheel gap for you, then you're a fanboy.

If you're just looking at aesthetics, the go for wheels. Pick out the right wheels in the right size with the right offset, and you might find yourself satisfied without lowering it for a while. A slammed car with sunken in high offset wheels looks like crap. Do what AZ89 said, get wheels first, then focus on getting a strut/spring combo that fits your needs. Streetable coilovers are wicked expensive.

OP, I'd recommend looking at pics of 240's with coilovers and 240 with strut/spring setups. Also try to take some rides in local 240's with either setup. From there, you can make a more informed decision on which would be best for you.

Personally, I regret the day that I listened to ppl telling me that coilovers are only for track cars. I went with strut/spring setups on both my S13 & S14 and I really regret it. Looking at all that wheel gap everyday is like an insult to my soul... :frown:

Just remember: Just because you have coilovers doesn't mean you're obligated to join the ranks of the hella-flush, strectched tire, frame-scrappers. There is a middleground.

thanks for all the info fellas I believe I will go for the coils which is what my gut has been telling me and most of you. I have been contemplating this because I'm the only bread winner in the house right now with two small children ages 3 1/2 and 1 so my money leaves before I earn it. Thats why for now my car has been such a slooooow build but I am getting the right parts at a time. simmode1 I know you are always posting pics or if anyone else has pics for comparison strut/ springs vs coils to see the gap difference. The coils I want to get are the stance lx+ if any one has these or know about the experience please feel free to give me you two pennies!

There are some really good review threads on the Stance LX line. I would link some, but most of these review threads are on competing forums. :frown:

Just google 'Stance LX' with S13/S14/240sx or whatever. From what I see in those threads, they sound like some winners for some street coils. They can go low and they ride soft. With Stance's reputation, what more could you want?

coilovers because then when you get wheels they'll look just that much better. and they're practical while wheels are BASICALLY just for show..

Depends on how much rubber they're packing and how sticky it is. The right set of wheels can be very practical.

Shoes complete the look and overall style you are trying to accomplish. coils are also for show even if they are meant to perform......hence stance....

I say coils first. If for some reason you decide to wait to have both on together, then the coils still, cause they take up much less space. Plus, when I first got my 240, it had 17s with low pros, and it looked like a fruity monster truck, I woulsve loved steelies and coils then wheels and stock set up. Just my 7 cents!

Coilovers first, and your car will be high with your new set of wheels. If you don't mind.

BMW wheels require a different bolt pattern.

For five lug, BMW is 5X120, while Nissan/Infiniti wheels are 5X114.3.

You would need custom adapters, unless there's some bolt on ones floating around somewhere. They're going to be very uncommon.

My suspension is very built and properly dialed in. Upgraded wheels and tires were an extremely, extremely noticeable upgrade. They shouldn't be overlooked so easily.

True story. Wider wheels (to a point) and some nice tires can make a WORLD of difference.

Especially if you're coming from stock wheels and lame tires. It's one of the best things you can do for your car. Besides, you can't take full advantage of coilovers with lame wheels/tires, which all 240s came with.

I can't remember details, but I think that car had some monster sized spacers on...
