Just changed my oil a couple days ago, and I was just wondering what brands of motor oil you guys use, and also what weights (at what mileage). I went with a higher weight (10w 40) cause of my mileage (154k), but what about everyone else?

I would definitely NOT reccomend synthetic oil on any engine with more than 10-15k miles on it. Synthetic is mollecularly smaller than regular oil, which means that it stays together better at high temps, but it also means that it can fit in cracks where regular oil cant. That means leaks. Once leaks get started, they're damn hard to stop. Switching back to regular oil wont help either I'm afraid to tell you. When my mom got my 1991 subaru with 176k miles on the engine, and NO leaks whatsoever, from my dad, she immediately went to jiffy lube, and had them do all the fluids, and change the oil(synthetic) Now, approximately a year and 20k miles later, I leak about a teaspoon of oil every 24 hours, when the car's not running.

I use Mobile One 15w-50 in my WRX. Thing is a freaking heat box and needs extra protection. Only have 7,949 mi on her.

AMS Oil Synthetic 20/50W (wish they made a straight 30W) don't need multi-viscous oils here in FL.)

I use Castrol Synthetic 5w-50. I do have a small leak, but that's from the monkey's that I had put my turbo kit on and the crap weld job on the oil line. I've only got 46k on my motor though.

Find a NAPA...they sell royal purple! And if you guys ever get a chance, buy Lucas Oil's Oil Treatment, that stuff is awesome, worth every penny! Real good for high mileage engines...

And if you REALLY need me to, Royal Purple is one of our race team sponsors, I could probably get you some, you would have to pay to get it shipped to your house though...

Dang ol dang, what is this supposed to mean?

Judging by the huge oil stain in my neighbor's parking space, I would be suprised if it had any oil in it :D

Very good Oil, and I am hoping your changing every 2k!!

That oil is also very good for NA applications, I am running that in my S14 with 95k miles, started using at 74k.

Laurel was right about being careful about using it, but I wouldn't say you can't, just depends on the application your using it on. How well the motor runs, condiiton of seals "oil pank, etc.".

Finzat, search up oil threads, Palmerwmd is the oilguru!!!!! and we have many good oil threads......

hope this helps...

Its not that it matters what oil you are running, its the fact that you are running a turbo application and your turbo has seals/etc that use oil. Your oil is getting used harder with a turbo set up and from my talking with shops and people that know oils well "aka Palmerwmd" they recomend you change your oil every 2k.

Your oil gets circulated throughout a turbo application more in comparrison to a NA app. Also, if you have dirty oil, or old oil, you are taking a chance ruining your turbo.

Does this make sense, its 2am and I am beat.

Rubin,It makes perfect sense. I was thinking of changing my oil ever 2,500mi. I have been monitoring my oil level and life each time I check my oil. I guess I will see how bad my oil get at 2k mi.Thanks for the info.
