i was talking to a friend with an FC about blow off valves.. and he's using an HKS.. he was telling me that the dual flanged older hks bov was the best for performance. he also told me that the blitz bov wasn't too good for performance because it lets air back in. I dont know how true that is. what are your 2 cents on bov's? I'd like to learn a little more before i go out and purchase one.

also.. what about the sounds produced? Which ones sound the best?

I am currently picking out the pieces and the shop to do my sr20 swap and I will be going with the hks SS. Great sounding BOV but there are different styles out there for everyone.

Here are a bunch of videos and sound clips of Andi's supra and he has the hks SS. It is a good quality unit that sounds great IMHO.

I know that the HKS SS and Apexi Twin chamber are very efficient bovs.

Just out of curiosity, if you like your turbo xs type H and it sounds nice, why go with the HKS instead?

The Super Sequential Blow-Off Valve (SSQV) is a pull type relief valve. The SSQV is actuated by pressure alterations only, ensuring quick valve response and complete closure during idle. Typical blow-off valves utilize large valves in order to accommodate high boost/high hp applications. However, these large valves react slowly and require high activation pressure to open. Smaller, fast reacting valves, do not permit the air flow required for high horsepower. The SSQV incorporates both for maximum performance. It is engineered utilizing a small primary valve and a secondary valve for additional relief capacity. The SSQV is made of billet aluminum and emits a unique aggressive sound.

Well, i think the HKS Racing T-II is the best bov, but thats more for major HP and boost. IMO the HKS SS has better response then the type H, or greddy type S...i guess thats the only reason i would choose one of those now...im not sure if anything that i would realize in 'rea time' but i feel that the response would get from the HKS valve opening and closing would be a little better than what i have now. Its probrobly just an opinion type of thing...I guess all the major brands do there jobs, and i dont dislike my bov at all, its just different imo.

I have the Prof "Sheepdog" BOV, and I think its great. I have heard Blitz and XS but the Sheepdog has a very unique sound. Plus its JDM so it adds a bit of character and is something that not a lot of people have. I like to be different and not so mainstream. It's weird too cause I love Blitz and have a lot of their stuff...just not BOV.

Greddy type S sounds too much like farts... HK$ racing bov type 2 is only for high hp. I'd recommend the HK$ SS bov. Blitz bov's are ok aswell.

What the hell is a Sheepdog BoV? any links, pics? curious to see it...

the TurboNetics Godzilla BOV is a great one, the only draw back is you cannot run it atmospheric vent if you still have a MAFS becuse it stays open at idle to circulate air thru the turbo to cool it off. It sounds very cool when it is vented to the atmosphere.

I had a Blitz BOV and loved that one too but it became to small for the turbo and could'nt let all the pressure out of the pipes fast enough.
