Hey,Just wondering what type of battery everyone is using with a FMIC? I've noticed that the most popular is the Odyssey PC680 so far. Anyone have any experience with the Westco Slimline battery? (Phase2 sells them). Thanks in advance!!!

I used the one enjuku sells. It's fine if you start your car everyday, but I unplug the little bastard every night just in case. It really is kinda weak.

http://www.svrbatteries.com/ba...id=21 Its small, powerful, lightweight, and sealed...best of all it'll fit despite my IC piping. Unfortunately, its on backorder and wont be here until March 2nd :(

I use a walmart battery with a 2 year replacment. Every year I take it back and tell them it sux and get a new one for free with another 2 year replacment. Works great. My piping goes under and over to avoid the battery area.

I have the same one, but it isn't weak to me. I leave it plugged in and everything. I often don't start the car for two consecutive days out of the week (days off work) if I don't do anything. I also leave the music on when I am working on it for a couple hours at a time with a 1600w system turned up halfway. It always starts. I also left one door slightly ajar from the stupid seatbelt in the doorjam, causing the dome light to stay on a whole day and a half--still started.

I have been using a mazda miata battery for almost 2 years with my settup. I have left the car for weeks at a time and NEVER had a problem with cranking/starting. I do not push a system or anything of it however :p

Does anybody worry about safety in a crash with a battery in the hatch? That's one of the main reasons I didn't go that way...even with tie downs a 40 or so lb. battery flying forwards scares the hell out of me. Its made worse by the lack of back seats to stop it.

B.L. Did you mean to quote me? If so then I understand about a good battery box and using tie downs...but I also know how easy it is to rip bolts out of sheet metal etc. and I would be worried that considering in a 35mph crash (for instance, into a brick wall to keep things simple) the G forces would be ~20G's, I got that information from here: http://forensicaccident.com/Crash%20Analysis_.htm If it was 20 G's then it would be putting an 800lb. load upon the tie downs...the tie downs that I've seen dont particularly look up to that kind of task and I worry that where they would be bolted too, which is effectively sheet metal would not be either unless you used a backing plate for each bolt. I think if I was mounting a battery in the back of my hatch I would use a 2 inch wide x1/4 inch thick piece of steel with two "legs" on either end of it. It would then be bolted through the floor to a backing plate of a similar size to the battery with 8 3/8 inch Grade 8 bolts. That thing would NEVER move

Edit: One more thing, with a battery in the back, it significantly cuts down on "fun" possible back there

oops..... yes:oface :oface :oface

I guess most of you have s13.......in the s14 you have a good spot in the rear right side of the car.The s14 also has a smaller opening behing the rear seat so i think i'm pretty safe:)

Yeah, when I think of this, I think of my car...a hatch with the backseat taken out. Chances are that not a whole lot of people would have the same worries that I do :) I'd feel quite safe if the battery was behind the seats but unfortunately I'll never have backseats, the previous owners dog ate them  Now, they just aren't worth replacing to me...too much trouble, added weight ;)

Nathan- Good safey concern.. most people dont think about that. I mounted mine on the passenger side of the hatch, behind the strut tower. The hope is that the combined forces of the bolts ripping through the metal and then the box slamming into the strut tower will be enough to stop the battery.

It would suck to survive a head on colision only to be killed by a flying battery.

Sounds like a pretty solid way of doing it :) I mean its a pretty unlikely thing to have happen, but the thought of a huge chunk of lead and plastic shattering the back of my skull is rather unpleasant. I figure you'd have to either get in a head on collision, or rear end/t-bone someone doing >70mph to really worry about it coming loose with the pretty standard tie downs used. Hopefully nobody will find out if I'm right :)
