On a divided highway (in most states) it is illegal to pass on the right..... especially if it's a cop!

I tempted fate a little by staying on a State Trooper's right hand side for a while. When he would speed up.... so would I, when he would slow down, so would I. This went on for about 2 miles, then he decided to get behind me and proceeded to pull me over.

The irate officer decided to ticket me for an inspection violation..... and passing on the right! Long story short... I contested it and won!!!!!! (I am soooo good) I still got busted for the inspection violation because I am an honest person and I admitted to it.

So DON"T pass cops NO MATTER WHAT.... they really don't like it.

hehe, plano cops. i've never been pulled over by plano cops, only been pulled over in allen for 6 months expired inspection tags. one of the managers at my old job used to tell stories about how he raced cops in plano back when he was in high school, always drinking of course (he's a drunk, at least a 6 pack a night). the cops didn't follow him into the next town for some reason.

i got passed by a cop in west texas, i was going at least 5-10 over and the road was empty, i look in the mirror and a cop is approaching fast so i move over to the right lane. i was in the left because the right was really bumpy, but when the cop passed me he waved and kept going.

15mph over and blowing past everyone in the right lane is not left lane abuse IMO. It's the crud behind me wanting to go even faster that gets me. With other drivers around, it's just too risky.

If you're getting passed on the right then you're part of the problem. Ever see the signs that say "Slower Traffic Keep Right"? There are irresponsible lane hoppers out there to be sure but if you have traffic behind you and room in front then do all a favour and keep to the right except to pass even if you're doing 30 mph over the limit. Keep the left lane clear especially on multilane freeways.

Traffic flow will improve if drivers observe lane discipline. When the traffic is very heavy, there is little that can be done but do you ever wonder how the congestion begins in the first place? There's most likely some numbnut toodling along in the left lane blocking faster traffic that, if left to pass, would exit sooner and this would result in less traffic on the road. At key times it only takes one or two blissfully ignorant people to start clogging the whole system.

unless i'm going to make a left turn soon, or the right lane is going too slow, i usually stick to the right, i believe a good example can be made. i.e. i get sort of close to the person in the right lane going slow, use my signal, go in the left lane, pass, and then quickly get back in the right lane!

thing is, i rarely RARELY do any highway driving

Sometimes after you pass and try to get back in the right lane you cant: 1) the person decides to floor it and keep you from getting in front of them, 2) the guy that is also behind you passing the same car will be in such a big rush or just an a$$ that they cut over before you do. Which i hate the most!!

Some drivers dont have respect to let you get back over so they can go on and you can too. Careless thinking drivers.

I think I have pass a cop before, but I dont like the Troopers. I was doing 60mph b/c I slowed down some going down a hill, trooper was on the other side of the road and flashed his lights at me. I dunno, there was a car that passed me going fast but the car was down the road after he flashed his lights, alot of good that done.

I have a cousin who is a cop, I dunno anymore when its him waving at me. Its freaky sometimes to me. Just be out driving down the road and have a cop waving and grinning at you. I put gas in my car one morning and went in handed the guy my money and turned around and cop stared at me hard and I casually looked up and went on out to my car and got in and causally looked back again and still was staring hard at me and my car. *shrugs* Usually cops here if they dont have their quarter in they will pull you over for going 1 mph over the speedlimit. (which is stupid!)

On another thing, its understandable if someone is from out of town driving slow on like a hwy or back road and they dont do the speedlimit, but I dont like it when people from this town decide they will run 25mph in a 45zone all the way to town. Usually when I have a time limit to be somewhere is when it happens.

Why! Something happened while i was driving around campus a few hours ago:

I'm minding my own business sitting at a red light, in a lane that goes straight and splits into double left hand turning lanes at another intersection ahead of me. Well, the lane on my right is for RIGHT TURNS ONLY and guess what? the bastard in the Mercedes suv next to me decided to go straight instead of make a right. So i click my signal on to go into the rightmost lane and i look in my side mirror and notice this *******. I try to speed up but there wasn't much room and the *****er decided to speed up and not let me in. So i created a scene and slammed on my brakes (no one behind me) and i creeped up behind him and sat at the red light FUMING mad. I had my highbeams on the succer all the way to the sports center. Where i rolled down my window when he pulled over to drop someone off and I said calmly, but angrily:

" ONLY THE LEFT LANE GOES STRAIGHT! NEXT TIME READ THE SIGN!"

bastard looked dumb as sh*t like a typical moron would and his wife yakking on her cellphone oblivious.

LMAO(laughing about the look he gave) I've had something almost like that happen. It started back at the 4-way stop sign. Guy in SUV and his wife didnt act like they were going to stop. So I already waited my turn and took off. Dude flies up on my arse and my mom knows when I'm p****ed in the car. Get up to the redlight and I hate it when people test to see how close they can get to you. Anyways, I'm in the lane that goes straight and he is in the lane that turns left. Light turns green guy floors it and suarves infront of me.

He got really lucky and so did I. I was fixing to turn left when he was passing me on that side. Friggin a*hole. I would have followed him and got the tag and just to be nice turn his number in but oh well. Another but yet reckless driver of todays' society. I dunno if he got mad for the look I gave him, but at the 4-way I gave this look like anyone going to go b/c I didnt stop first, then at the redlight I happen to look left and gave this look like stay off my arse. Yesterday I drove to Livingston(TN) for college, fog where you couldnt see **** infront of you. I ran up on a car that didnt have no lights and quickly put my blinker on to go around. I use my lights, I have 2 parklights out on my car in front. Maybe some think they arent invisible and you can see them. Its been raining here to Apexi....they are calling for snow showers again here. I'm dreading that. I hate when roads are slick.

I believe so.... that's why it is absolutely illegal on a divided highway.... because there is NO WAY they can make a left turn. I have never had the occasion to pass a cop on a multi-lane highway (we've only got one in the ENTIRE state that is more than 2 lanes wide.... and it's only for 10 miles). But the cop I played games with was on a 2 lane road.

Actually, In Indiana you can turn left and drive across a divided highway (not talking about Interstates). We have plenty of east west roads that intersect the medians of highways. No stop signs, no nothing. I pass cops on our loop 465, if a cop aint doing the speed limit. I just don’t give them a reason to pull me over. BTW Mitey, I prefer the DH. Pitchers have no business batting!

Pitchers only have no business batting because they haven't had to in so long. Given time they will become the superior athletes that they were in high school and college and the game will become increasingly interesting. Also, the purity of the game will increase as strategy and the subtle nuances of the game are put on display. I don't care if you like the DH, it's only for washed up sluggers who can't play defense and have more business playing beer league softball than pro baseball.
