So what do you guys enjoy doing in your spare time and recommend some new things to me.

I make Calder-style mobiles. Cut sheet metal and paint it and stuff. You could use any object in a mobile actually (mine aren't that big obviously). Very time consuming.

I keep fish in aquariums too, so soothing. Don't keep saltwater fish though, they just steel them of the reefs and use dubious collection methods.

Yoga. To fix some physical problems that keep me from rockclimbing.

Sierra club.

Just keep trying some new stuff. Probably best if there is no computer/ TV involved, I get the feeling you want something you don't look at a screen to do...

Reading, reading up on car info, driving range, bowling, hold 'em, video games. Somethings I stopped doing out of sheer laziness: tae kwon do (blue belt), kendo (2nd degree black belt), boxing, working out (running and lifting free weights), competitive gaming (LAN and online), drawing.

I really started getting into it when I talked to some people at a local sporting goods store, Galyans (now d!ck). One of the guys turned me onto a local group of people who go out on outings around Indiana for day trips. They also have weekend trips where we would go out to Virginia or Tennessee and hit some more challenging water. I have wanted to buy my own kayak forever, but it just wasn't reasonable for me to drop a big chunk of change on something that I couldn't do more regularly than 4 or 5 times a year. Plus, I had no place for storage or way to transport it. But, now that I have a house and a Jeep Cherokee to use to haul it around, I am thinking of going ahead and picking one up next year and really get into it more. The biggest hassle is having someone pick you up downstream and drive you back to your vehicle.

If you really want to get started, check out local places that sell kayaks, they will deffinetly have some sort of affiliation with a group of people who go out. Usually someone has a van with a trailer and drops everyone off and then picks them up at a pre-determined location downstream.

It's a great rush to take some nice rapids and go down a few waterfalls in a little kayak. It takes a good hour or two of practice to get used to turning yourself over under water, but that'a really about all you need to be able to do. It's a great way to exercise and be outside especially if there is some nice place to go nearby.

hobbies: Road racing, (driving, not watching). Most sports, depends on the time of year. Home improvement (owning an old house means always having something to repair or tinker with)

Heh, I forgot about Canoeing and Kayaking. I used to do ALOT of that. We used to go every summer for a week long trip down the Sacramento River and I've been down the Russian river more times than I can count on my fingers. Then when I worked at a scout camp, I taught canoeing and rowing (along w/ motorboting, swimming, and lifesaving). Good times... another thing I miss alot
