Alright. I assume some of my fellow "gun nuts" carry their pistols daily. I would be interested to know what you equip yourselves with.

What firearm do you trust your life with?

Why that one; features, weight, capacity, fetching 24k gold matches your tooth?

In what holster do you carry it?

Why that one; brand loyalty, specific feature, satisfied your needs at a certain price point?

Where do you carry it and how? Strong side, weak side, high, low, in the waistband, on the belt, shoulder rig, small of the back?

Carry extra mags, if so where? Opposite side, next to the gun, in your sock?

Just some questions that might help me select equipment.

As soon as I get my CCW gets here, Sig p238 in a Desantis superfly holster in the right pocket. Probably keep an extra clip in the left pocket or cargo pocket.

Well TMS, I'm pretty sure you know I'll say I don't trust my life to anything but a Glock, I think I've covered that ad nauseum.

Glock 23. It has an integrated rail to hold the weapon light I carry in a pocket. Tritium night sights are coming soon. I'm currently carrying it in a Kramer leather outside waistband belt mounted strong side. The holster is top notch and it holds very close to the body for concealability. It's not a retention but there is a very positive snugness to it. And most importantly IT DOESN'T CREAK! I can't stand leather that creaks and moan every time you move, dead giveaway. I currently carry one spare mag (15 rd.) on the opposite side in a Dillon leather single pouch. When I find a suitable double, I'll be carrying two mags. It may add "wideness" to your profile to carry mags on the weak side, but your strong hand is already busy holding the gun when you need to reload.

Some things I learned at the Sig academy about carrying. Practice and repetition. Whatever your set up is, PRACTICE. Don't change stuff until you practice drawing, firing, reloading, and re-holstering about a hundred times. This kind of eliminates the soft IWB holsters because after you draw, you can't re-holster.

Avoid combination Flashlight (or knife) and mag pouch. Which one do you use more often? The extra mag or the flashlight/knife? There are cops six feet under with a flashlight jammed in their mag well.

Shoulder holsters look cool on TV, but may not work out so well. A few cops showed up to Sig with these new rigs on and when they got to the firing line they literally took 10 to 15 seconds trying to dig a gun out of their hip that wasn't there. PRACTICE and MUSCLE MEMORY!

I've got a crossbreed supertuck for my XD..it's a nice comfortable holster and hides the big gun pretty well.

the grip prints slightly but I haven't messed around with positions much.

I need to get a DeSantis Nemesis for my Kahr or blow some money on a Don Hume pocket holster.

it'll mostly be tucked in a pocket.

I got it with the income return...haven't gotten to shoot it much..but it's nice so far.

long trigger pull but it's light and smooth.

if I get a chance, we I'll bring it to the Nash meet...there's an indoor range not far from the hotel if you wanna shoot it or the XD-45

or a 10.5" Super Blackhawk.

Bingo. My smaller PT111 vanishes with a supertuck.

It's loaded with Cor-Bon's excellent 115 gr +P. Though I'd be comfortable with other big-name 115 or 124 gr rounds.

After looking the supertuck over, and watching some vids, I am interested. I still think a crossdraw would be best for me but there is no denying the CB makes a pistol disappear and the generous backer looks comfortable and addresses a concern I had about the thumb safety flipping off riding against me directly while the weapon was holstered. I just put one on order, we shall see how I like it.

my BB gun. Full size government model. If I like the holster it will eventually hold a real 1911 with a 4 or 3" barrel that can actually break the skin, and muscle, and uh bone, a few vital organs, maybe some sheetrock after that, etc etc.

fair enough.

I think you'll like it...just remember it's the 5" barrel making it dig into your hip.

but which one?

the PM40 is a snappy little guy...recoil's probably more bothering out of it than the slightly bigger PM45

I just don't see the need for the 40 smith. Almost every review of a gun sporting that caliber seems to comment on the snappiness. I would rather have the .45. Even in a commander frame, I would never call it "snappy." It kicks sure, but definitely manageable.

yeah.

the .40 S&W is a result of trying to get a more practical 10mm. It worked out ok as it's the most popular LE caliber now...

<---still wants a real 10mm.

Basically, Smith and Wesson listened to the complaints on their 1006 and worked on shortening the 10mm and still getting better, more manageable performance out of the 10.

what resulted is a high pressure round that while being snappy, is still pretty manageable and fits in a 9mm framed gun that's easier for smaller shooters to get a grip on.

Loaded right, the .40 S&W can put .45 ACP power into a 9mm framed pistol.

It's no 10mm Auto, but the 10mm Auto couldn't be dropped into a 9mm based pistol. It's better than the 10mm Lite bulls***, though.

.45 ACP recoils with a much nicer "push."

heh...when I say 10mm I mean the original Norma load.

anything with light on the end of the name tends to suck.

I never shot a 10mm, but the general consensus is seems to suggest it is not to be taken lightly. I can't see carrying anything bigger than .45. Honestly, if that, hell, even a 9mm isn't getting it done, you're either a terrible shot or you need a rifle to stop the threat.

or you wanna go handgun hunting or like watching bowling pins dance.

10mm was intended to bring 357 mag performance into an autopistol..it really exceeded it.

come on, Sonny Crocket carried a 10mm!
