Just another 240:
The short answer: A paralegal is basically what a RN is to a doctor. A paralegal has certain abilities, usually drafting paperwork, legal research and being a gopher for their supervising lawyer.
The long answer: A paralegal does not require a specific degree, but does require certifacation training (usually comparable to an associates.) Attending (and graduating) law school does not make you a lawyer, the only way to become a certified lawyer is to take the Bar Exam in the state you want to practice. However, you can't take the bar exam without graduating from an accredited law school.
Paralegal training is very specific...how to draft contracts, how to do research. It is "How-to" education. Law school is much more general and theory oriented, it tries to teach the "why", and assumes you will figure the rest out on your own.
Hope that makes sense. If you'd like to know more, hit me on AIM: Icepik125
