Which is worth more, an 89-94 240sx with an sr20 or a ka-t? Im going to start building these and selling them to the public. Ive got access to about 20 240sxs and I gotta get a cash flow going. I also have access to plenty of s14s. Does anyone know what any of these cars would be worth with an sr20. They seem to be easier to find with low miles.

the thing is.. 99% of the time it is more expensive to mod a car and then resell it.

but if you think u can make a profit out of it go for it.

i would say put the sr20 in there, because drifting is catching on and all the mad tyte honda kids will want a silvia with sr20

good luckmax(we wouldnt want everyone runnin around with ka-t's now would we?)

honestly, i think you could resell a KA-T for more depending on what state you sell the car to. When I was looking for cars, i stood clear of any car with an engine swap because A. it would be a pain to try and get service manuals for it (2 manuals for one car, trying to figure out what manual i need to be looking in)and B. because it would be a pain for it to pass inspection. granted I live in one of the few states that has a yearly safety/emmisions test besides those two points, I would tell you to steer clear from trying to make a profit off of anything thats modded. People don't understand that cars are NOT an investment, they will almost never earn you any money. They are a hobby, something you dump money into because you love to work on your own car, or are a speed freak, drift junkie or whatever else floats your boat. but, if you can find buyers that will give you the price you want, go for it.

edit: i'm not trying to be a downer, I just don't want you to waste a bunch of money expecting a return. I tried reselling parts for a local salvage yard, and goddamn if people wouldnt lowball you untill their face turned blue. just be sure you can make the money you want from it

Well.. ka engines are cheaper.. but sr engines are already turbo'd.

I'm with ^.. Sorry, this doesn't sound like the most lucrative of business ventures.

I just thought itd be a good Idea since I can have a car with the sr swap and it cost me 4000. I was hoping I could atleast get 6000 for each car. I can do the sr swap in 2 days no problem. I already have a business with car sales, body and frame work, paint, parts supply house, and Im a dealer with Titan motorsports, carbon-creations, and xs-engineering. If you guys ever need any parts at a good discount, hit me up with an email

We have a policy concerning advertising and I would be willing to bet my discounts > your discounts.

I think it could work if you did it on a order first basis. meaning you find someone interested and purchase all the parts then sell them the car completed, this way you dont have a lof full of modded cars that you paid out of your pocket for and may not get a buyer.

There is a place here, Orlando, FL. that has something like this will some success. I think the place is called Mikes Auto or something, he mostly sells civics with bodykits and the general type "looker" cars, but it seems to work for him.

i think it really depends on the market in which u plan on attacking. if ur sticking to local territory for u, then it may work pending on emissions, interests in 240s, etc. If you were to start building these things and doing a car lot thing, u may want to reevaluate the costs and time which would b required to make a profit. what emperor said is a good idea. Also remember that u will most likely have to offer some kind of warranty so that may also keep ur business idea local since if u lived in florida, u couldnt go and fix a car in cali...........

BTW, im always on the lookout for a silver moss kouki should one cross ur way............

xs-engineering... carbon creations... are you located in Southern California?

If so, you "might" have a chance of getting the 5-6k, however, there are a lot more things you have to consider.

If you check out autotrader, the cars that go for that much have a bunch of other mods, suspension, silvia front end conversions, more than just stock sr20det swap, maybe racing seats or paint job, etc. etc.

For 5 - 6k around here, you can get 240's w/ pretty good mods in addition to sr20.

For ~4k you can get a bleh 240 w/ an sr20. So it doesn't seem that profitable for you unless you can get everything done for about 3k + your labor, in which you should technically make at least 1k.

If you have 20 240's, and can get them for under blue book value and they are good condition, why not just sell the 240's straight up? That's basically 2k each at least, then you can "offer" sr20 swaps for extra.

So many ways to do this it's not even funny. But yes, if you are in So Cal, you have a much better chance since there is a relatively big demand for 240's over the last couple or few years.

no sadly Im not in so. cali. Im in mississippi... ..it sux here, but 240s are very popular. I sell to atlanta, memphis, and some places in florida and alabama. Good thing is WE DONT HAVE EMISSIONS. I could burn a fire on top of my car and drive it around town and no one would care. Both my supra and my 240 have 3.75 exhaust, down pipe, and no cat. Its great being able to drive whatever whenever. That is the only upside of living here.

Depends... Just sticker them so only serious people would buy them. (people with cash)

I had a guy offer me 25k for my car... He said he wanted a turbo 95. :P

I would have sold it... But I want a turbo 95 too... (and 25k would be less then I have into it total)
