On my "Ornament Cover" (the thing that covers the spark plugs on the valve cover) there are these brown rectangular pads that appear to be heat shields.

Two have them have broken off and I was wondering if it was that important that I replace them. I noticed on Elwesso's how to on the spark plugs that he didn't have any.

Are they important and if they are where might I find some?

Here is a pic....

Hmm...never really wondered. Heat shields are a good guess. How close do the covers get to the coils? Maybe they're cushions to prevent the covers from rattling against the coils when they flex?

I think they keep the coils from sending any signal into the metal cover, this would cause some serious running issues, I was told its more like a electrical shield.

Yeah, but the ornament cover is plastic. If in fact they are electrical shields then the ones on the ornament cover would be useless.

Though keeping the coils from sending a signal sounds on point.

thnx for the info. 2-morrow I am going to infiniti of gwinnet and checking it out, then maybe a junkyard.

I never noticed those.... Wow you are quite observant...

I think they are little pads that double as heat shields and help keep the coil in place....

Nothing I would worry about... hell, I just ripped off a heat shield off the cat a few weeks ago.... no big deal, except now I cant park on dry leaves or hay..... :D

Well the dude at the dealer said they were for noise reduction and to not worry about it. This is the same guy that said I couldn't buy a under plenum hose kit for less than 800 dollars. typical....

I think it is safe to say this thread is done. thanks for the replies yall. Ben

He might have guessed correctly on that one. It could attenuate HLA noise that would otherwise set the flat surface which they covered to resonate. Details, details.
