I got my low-profile, 4-ton, hydraulic lift from Costco for $65 or so. Much nicer than the simple jack in the car. I don't have jack-stands yet, but I plan to get those soon. I use it for tire changes only - oil changes are at a local shop.
Particularly the left tires, yes! The last time I had a flat, it was near enough home that I had my wife drive out in her car, park behind me, blinkers on, and give me some shelter.
