It wasn't meant that way , more as a reference since you mentioned a complete re-do in process.

You thinking of just replacing the speakers or the whole ball of wax? I though with these Bose things you had to be really picky about this and rip the whole thing out if you want ot get new speakers.

My Bose unit still sounds darn good for a stock unit, I'm thinking I will get another 3-4 years out of it.

Sounds like a good plan, any idea on brands?

Someone was making a fiberglass pod for a sub in the trunk of a G50, might be worth checking to see if you could find a place to do the same for the Y33, trunks are small and the gas tank is somewhat in the way. Having someone do some real creative work, could make a huge difference in how it sounds and how much of your trunk you lose.

I *personally* don't care for full range coming from behind me, so I'd only do mid-basses and go as big as I could (up to an 8") for the rear parcel shelf.

Just tossing out some ideas/suggestions. Feel free to tell me to stop .

i do have a couple of free-air 8" subs chilling in the garage, they could always go in the shelf...

What kind of head unit you going to do, going double-din?

That's a CD/MD isn't it .

I've got a couple threads about a Nak-95 that I've drooled over for years on here somewhere. And here's an Alpine

obviously ihave zero use for the MD part. My biggest contention is about having something too tech in a rather utilitarian dash. I dont wand a billion tiny buttons or 3 colors...

Well, I'm an MD fan and I think this would look "at home" in the Q's dash, but I completely hear you about not wanting a lazer light show in the dash.

I have played around with the idea of replacing the audio in my '99 Qt as well, and since I also want a NAV package, talking with my bud Billy at a local audio shop (Audio Zoo, which he owns, and with whom I went to school with), and he is suggesting going with Eclipse AVN5495 b/c of its HDD NAV and doing replacement speakers, with a single 10/12 Sub in the trunk. Another buddy of mine suggested Fabricating smaller sub mounts to fit in the little side wells of the trunk, possibly using 8s, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

I am still playing with the Python 881XP I got put in, purely for remote start....:P

EDIT: Added the following:OMG, I just saw the new AVN7000 at the Eclipse web site. Very cool. But I still like the 5495 better, simply for the Double DIN design.

LOL this thread is one of the reasons I like to come here for Q45 stuff. I have been looking for an upgraded radio for a while (CD & tape don't work) But I have had a hard time finding a double dim that doesn't look like the Las Vegas Strip when a song is on.

I was also wanting to do Nav and was thinking about this one http://www.crutchfield.com/S-G...L#Tab

I saw the Eclipse Nav double DIN. I almost put one in at the spur of the moment after driving 100 miles to Stockton to have a fellow NICO board memeber sell me some rims and rip out an old phone kit. He wanted 1800 out the door, what is your friend willing to do it for?

I think if yoiu replace the head unit with double DIN you might as well do a NAV.
