I will be changing my fuel filter after the rain stops and wanted to get some expert advise before I put hands on my 90. If you would, explain the steps in numerical order.

Several posts on this.

Primarily, you have to relieve the fuel pressure by pulling the FP fuse while the engine is running and relieve the tank pressure bu pulling the cap. The rest is straight forward.

I'm getting started thanks maxnix. I also discovered the power of the search button.

I didn't do any of that...Just let the car sit for a minimum of an hour after driving, then changed the filter.I had no problems.

You must have a bad check valve or pump because it is under pressure otherwise. Squirting fuel under the hood is a problem for most!

For sure, whenever I replace my filter it almost always sprays me....

Sometimes its easiest not to fight with the lower hose, buy some extra hose just in case ( a foot should do it ) and dont fight with the lower hose for too long.

I think the check valve sits on top of the fuel pump... not sure though. How does it start after a hot soak? If it takes longer than after sitting all night, don't discount a leaky injector or lower o-ring. The hard start would be a sign of flooding.
