Oh, and set your gap to .43
Iridium plugs, in that of themselves, offer little to no benefit in performance over platinum. The iridium portions of the plug will be stronger and longer lasting, and boasts a small reduction in electrical resistance. Appreciable gains in perofmance can really only be seen when the properties of iridium are taken advantage of properly. That is, it's longer wear characteristics lends itself to using smaller electrode sizes, which reduce quenching of heat back onto the electrodes. NGK's IX series iridium plugs use about the same size center electrode as their platinums. The IX series also uses an iridium center electrode with a standard type of ground electrode. The OE calls for a double platinum plug because the distributorless ignition in the G35 (and most new cars) generate a spark in both directions, which doubles the number of sparks that occurs and since one spark is generated at the ground, it will wear the ground faster than if the ground only acted as a ground all the time. As a result, I would not recommend the IX iridiums on the G. I would use them on a car that uses a distributor though.
The only iridium plug available in the US (to my knowledge) is the denso SK series platinum plugs. These have a center iridium electrode and a platinum ground. No performance benefits would be expected, but the plug should lasty longer than the OE double platinum. The Denso IK series ias an unltra fine wire iridium center electrode with a standard ground material. This type of plug might actually have a slight increase in performance, but wear will be accelerated for the same reasons as the NGK IX iridiums.
NGK makes a center iridium with platinum ground plug, but as far as I can tell, it is not available in the US through their regular distribution channels. Hopefully that will change soon.
