Hey guys should i change my spark plugs? If so would you recommend the NGK ones? I have heard of people getting oil leak in their 6th cylinder. could someone enlighten me on that issue. changing spark plugs wont really help the oil leak right? the people who change spark plugs often, please let me know why you guys do it. thanks for your help.

IMO and I'm sure someone will offer different advise.

The spark plugs are a wear item and the more miles the more they wear. They 'CAN' last for 100000 miles but they are probably going to be worn down to the point where you are loosing some gas milage when your not on it and some performance when you are on it. 40k is a great time to change plugs, I personally would not go past 50k miles on a set of plugs.

OEM plugs at OEM gaps are your best bet if you are not running nitrous/turbo/supercharger

I always put a dab of antiseize on the plug threads. I've heard don't do this I've heard do it. I've always done it with no issues.

I have never heard of oil making it past the plugs? Aluminum head so I guess anything is possible?

Lots of extensions and joints are the key to getting the plugs in and out with out cross threading and take your time. Do not over torque the plugs. They are going to be in inch pounds

I changed mine at around 55K on the 05 Sedan I traded in.....and I feel I wasted my money.Have you noticed a decrease in power or MPG??? If so, change them. If not, spend your $$$ on another mod!

i actually feel im getting low mpg, but the thing is im much more aggressive so i dont think its the cars fault. i have heard that the NGK Iridium spark plugs are really good. i found it on this website. http://shop.oreillyauto.com/pr...Set=A

i used t change the plugs on my jeep every year... with platium plugs just for gas milage reasons as well as my Fram air filter... it was probably over kill... but i was in the low 20s in mpg on my jeep on the highway consistantly...

im debating on changing my plugs on my g35 when i hit 30k and just change them every 30k to keep peak performance/mpg

batteries only last 3-5 years on average. I'd change mine when the car is 5 years old if it hasn't gone out.

I talked to you about this spark plug thing already...

its a matter of performance and what you want out of your car. I always want the highest performance and the best burn of gas(mpg) i can get.

its your call...

If the dealer does it, there's a chance they'll find something else that can be fixed under warranty (for free).

I have an extended warranty to 100K, but will be sure to change my plugs around 90-95K instead of the suggested 105K.

Replacing spark plugs would not help with any kind of an oil leak. If the leak is within the engine, then it will still be there. And if the leak is in the seal around the spark plug hole, then its still going to be there, but should not enter the combustion chamber as the plug seals against the motor.

Recommended plugs are the NGK double platinum. The IX iridium plugs from NGK are single iridium (standard ground). The G35, as well as most modern cars, use coil packs. This type of ignition system creates 2 sparks. One in each direction. As a result, in order to get maximum life from the plugs, both electrodes need to be made of a hard metal, otherwise the ground will simply wear too fast to keep the plug lasting as long as it should. Denso makes an iridium plug that uses a center iridium electrode and a platinum ground. NGK makes these but haven't been importing them. That may change soon as it sounds like the G37 is using NGK's iridium plug with platinum ground.

i think i have the original battery in my car.. but my car starts strong... so i know there is no need to change it yet... and i left cabin lights on before and the car started fine...

my car is 3 years old... so by the end of next year i should get a new battery... 4yrs is about what id give a battery on our car with all its electronics.
