I want to place 3 gauges below my CD player (in the center compartment).

1. Who sells the face plate mount and the gauges ?2. What are the 3 most important gauges.3. I plan on getting the Apexi turbo timer4. What do you guys prefer for boost controller (dont plan on goin over 12psi) I am actually even thinking of using the manual one till a later time.

Thanks for everyones contribution / help.

I just got off the phone with autometer. He said to get boost/vac, EGT, and fuel pressure.

Anybody know of a good gauge manufacturer that is cheaper than autometer?

is there a specific purpose for knowing the exhaust temp. or just for personal knowledge?

EGTA/FOil Pressure

EGT stands for Exhaust Gas Temperature. It, along with an air/fuel ratio meter will give you a really good idea of how well your car is running. If the EGT gets near the 1500 degree mark under boost, it's time to slow down and let the car cool off.

I'm in the middle of doing my swap, and the gauges that I will have when done is A/F (built into the tach), boost and EGT (both in the center console DIN slot).

@ slw240sx: U are using VDO's? VDO EGT gauges aren't available over here(strange  ), where did u get em ? Cause i'm using VDO's also (dirt cheap over here:) ), and i would be very interrested in an EGT gauge from them.

boost, air fuel, fuel pressure.

most cars have an oil pressure gauge or at least an idiot light that should cover you until you get the next most important gage, Oil pressure

HKS makes a 3 gauge DIN slot pannel. http://www.lsauto.com/guages.asp

what i want to know is what people did to make (or Buy) the gauge pannel that goes in the two center vents (s13) above the climate control unit.

TBO makes some. You can just pull the vents out and make a panel out of plexiglass, aluminum or unobtainium;) with the right sized holes for your guages.

Water temp is useless if your car is running alright. I have my water temp gauge tapped into my upper radiator hose and it used to barely move. Id have to have the climate control on cold and be sitting at idle for like 5 min for the needle to even move. But now that I put the clutch fan back on ive never seen that needle move.

The only bad thing about the HKS triple DIN cluster is that they are 46mm gauges and they discontinued alot of the 46mm series stuff awhile back.

you just have to bore them out and you can fit any gauge within resonable size.

the point of the gauge is purely in case something breaks etc.

i never really paid much attention to the water temp until my water pump went out along with my thermostat :dunno:

I know its trick and everything to put your gauges there, but you will need really small gauges (46mm I think) which will be hard to read, especially over in the middle of your console down and at an angle. To answer your question, HKS makes 46mm and the DIN panel to house them. I might be wrong but I think they're mechanical too, making them even harder to read still. I don't wanna look it up to make sure, but you should verify what I just said at http://www.optauto.com. cause I might be wrong. Electronic seems to be the way to go. In case you were planning on reading A/F off the A'pexi autotimer-don't do that, get a real gauge. If you wanna go manual boost controller, think abou the TurboXS dual stage, its pretty nice. I will probably be getting a Blitz SBC-DC. Good luck!

An overheating car is one of the most common causes for engine damage.....its nice to be able to see if your car starts to run hot...atleast IMO.

Yeah, you don't need many gauges when everything's running fine...but everything won't run fine forever, and if you don't know what's going on with your engine; may god have mercy on your car.:)

Hmm. I just bought a '98 kouki clip with 34k miles on it. I was debating the necessity of replacing the water pump since the engine is pretty new. I guess you like veryone else would advise me to do it? Its only $130.

While you're at it, make sure your standalone has a diamond floorplate integrity sensor too. That's where Brian went wrong with his "double shot of 'NOZ'!"
