I've just bought a G35 sedan with a non-bose, non-satellite ready, headunit. I want to replace the headunit so I can listen to satellite radio, and possibly my iPod if the unit allows. The dash console trim is brushed alloy. There are plenty of headunits out there that will satisfy my need, but no one seems to know where to get a replacement for the radio/air conditioning console that will accomodate the new, thinner headunit. I could pay the dealer $700 bucks to replace the headunit with one that is satellite ready, but that's a lot of money for a headunit. What are my other options? Anyone know of a good headunit that will fit neatly in the oversized radio faceplate now in the car, or is there a soure for replacing the console trim plate that will fit a standard size headunit?

First, welcome to NICO!

$700 isn't that much...If you went aftermarket to do the things you've listed, you're going to pay a lot more!

To replace the console unit, you must allow for the fitment of an aftermarket deck. This is because the AC controls are integrated into the radio unit. Which brings me to the next item you need to buy, the AC controller unit. These 2 items, plus a trim piece, cost around $350 depending on the year of the car. Then, you have to buy the head-deck that has IPOD inputs, install amps or an adapter to work with the factory equipment, and the satellite radio receiver.

Now, this is for the 03-06 G35, I'm not sure if the same applies to the new model. Here is a website that sells the console unit items:

03-06 or 07 sedan? The 03-06 is already sat ready, not sure about the 07. If you don't want to pay the dealer they do make a kit that will allow the stock headunit to hook up an Ipod plus gives a spare set of RCA's, so you can hook up the Sat.

On the 07, I've read that it has RCA inputs in the glove compartment or something like that.
