Well... figured I'd test out the ol' rear end on the S14.

Jacked it up ... spun the wheel and the other moves along with it... then start to spin it continuesly then suddenly it pops and begins to one wheel! ... uhhhhhhhh... sh1t!

If you're not using high enough temp lsd fluid, or krappy fluid without an lsd additive, when the tempurature heats up to much, it will go back to being an open-puck diff.

Also, in order for most diff's to function as lsd's they require a certain amount of break-away torque, usually 50 lbs....otherwise the lsd functionality won't stay engaged, and it will return to an open-puck diff....which would mean that it would have to be on the ground, and not jacked up in the air.

This may or may not be the case....just thought I'd help...

The coupling is sealed. The fluid only effects the lubrication of the spider gears and the pinion and ring gears. I'd recommend pulling the diff and opening it. Check to see if something else is wrong. Also remove both shafts and inspect them. The shafts themselves engage the coupling, so make sure nothing is wrong with them.
