i am looking at this sub. it will be running in the reccomended sized sealed enclosure, but i honestly dont know what amp i need. id like for it to be around 1500-2000 watts. i am also going to need a dry cell. i was running a 451s with a 1 farad capacitor, and my car was still being robbed of power. i want this setup to run without any power taken from my car what-so-ever, even at idle. please throw out suggestions, as i am not familiar with expensive amps and the exact function of a dry-cell. thanks alot..

Amp... depends on budget, but a solid affordable powerhouse is the JBL BP1200.1. it will give you 1390w RMS @ 2 ohms and not break the bank.

Charging system should include upgraded alternator ground and battery ground wires... under the hood you should run a red top optima with 4 awg power minimum. if you have the money i would suggest a high amp alternator. the alternator will give you the no-loss at idle factor. other than that... you will have drain at idle on every other setup

well will a dry-cell last for a little while under idle? i dont need it to run for 10 minutes of idle, im just sick of having my car die at a red light...

in terms of amps, i've heard a lot of good things about HiFonics Brutus series amps... the BX1500D puts out 1500W RMS @ 1 ohm, and can be bought for just over $300 US NEW apparently...

the JBL 1200.1 is also a nice amp, but puts out 300W less than the hifonics... of course the JBL is 1200 @ 2ohm, but pretty sure you can get the sub with dual 2ohm coils, so 1ohm config is no problem... if you can only get it with dual 4ohm coils the JBL would be a much better choice

and yes, you'd be surprised how long you can run a system just off your battery... with engine off you can run it for over an hour as long as you don't crank the sub... cheap non drycell battery with my old system composed of a 50x4 stereo amp and a 1000W class d amp lasted for 2 hours and started perfectly after watchin a movie in a drive-in theatre :D

the hifonics would prolly be the best choice cause its produces more power down at 1ohm than the JBL...

a sub that has dual 4 ohm coils can be run at 2, 4 and 8 ohms, depending on how you wire it up to the amp... a sub with dual 2 ohm coils can be run at 1, 2 and 4 ohms...

so if you want to run your sub in a one ohm config, just twist the two positives leads together, and twist the 2 negative ones together and stick em in the amp (bridged/parralel circuit)) :pface if you wanted 2 ohms out of it, you don't "bridge" the leads together, you just stick them in their respective terminals on the amp... if you wanted to run the sub at 4ohms you take a positive from one coil and wire it up to the negative of the other coil and stick the left over positive and negatives from the two coils and stick it in the bridged locations in the amp (series circuit)... most amps will indicate which locations are used for bridged setup but most often it's just the opposite sides:

(+) - + (-) ... the ones in the brackets are where you'd plug **** in for bridged setup :pface haha maybe too much info, but at least you know for future reference

You cannot run a dual 2 at 2 ohms, or a dual 4 at 4 ohms w/ a class D (mono) amp. To do those configs you need a multi-channel amp and one voice coil to each channel.

right... forgot about that... well if you wanna get the jbl amp go with the dual 4ohm sub, and if you want to run the hifonics, go with the dual 2ohm sub... problem solved :D

The JBL is rated down to 1 ohm, but it will not put out any more power than the 2 ohm rating.

god that sub its impossible to break the bank...i was going to just stay with my little pg1200.1 and simply put out 1500 watts to the beast. well I lied to myself. In the forseable future i'm gonna get the 2500D or the new RE sub. That sub doesn't shine until it's closer to full power. its a sickness
