Mine has been doing that. Trying to single out the source. I'm thinking the tiny square on the front bumper on the passenger side detects it?

Salesman must have not done a good job delivering your car.... The small front square on the front bumper is simply a cover for access to a threaded hole. There is a hook stored with the spare tire that screws in under that cover in case the vehicle needs to be winched/towed

There have been numerous threads about the air bag light, and its also discussed in the owners manual. I'd suggest performing a search, or consulting the OM

Shift Monkey is right about the little square on the front bumper but to answer your question the airbag light is activated by a pressure switch on the front seat. When the light is on, that means the airbag is off and will not deploy in case of a head on collision. If it is off, it will deploy. The off switch is activated if a certain weight is not on it....such as a small child. In the past, before the switch came into play, when a small child was in the front seat when the airbag was deployed, the force of the airbag coming out caused more harm then protection. With the pressure switch in the seat, it knows by a pre-set weight, when a small child is on the seat or not. My light goes on all the time when I place my laptop bag on the seat. It goes off when I put it on the floor. The only conclusion I can surmise is that the switch is activated (not for the airbags to deploy) if a certain weight range is on it...like 10 - 40lbs. Hopefully that makes sense and is clearer than mud.

Ahh, aight, because I think I know what the problem is. I had placed a letter emblem over it to represent my name. It's small, and thought it wouldn't have an effect. I guess it does.

Thanks!

Who is shift monkey? Names Mike, Thanks.

That is only partially true. I insist you refer to your owners manual for the proper operation of the light.

The pressure sensors are correct in determing weight AND HEIGHT of occupant! However, as stated, when the light is "off" the air bag will deploy. That is not true in the case that if there is no passanger, nothing on the seat, and the light is OFF, the airbag WILL NOT deploy.

So, when I don't have a passenger the life is off, so it can't be the emblem on the bumper square. It must be something else causing it.

Do you think it could be how my passengers decide to sit in the chair. I had one with their legs Indian style onto the seat.

Did you not read my post? The bumper square is access for a towing location, has N-O-T-H-I-N-G to do with the airbag!

Yes, a passanger not sitting properly in the seat may cause the light to go on. The Air bag sensors in the seat are in the seat base and in the seat back. It takes into consideration the weight on the seat base, and the height on the seat back!

My 125lbs GF will have the light come on if she's not sitting up straight and normal in the seat

Ha sorry, I misread it. Yes it makes sense.

My passenger weighed as much as your girlfriend.

So, what was your solution?

Did you make her sit up straight, or is it something that Nissan can fix?

She sits how she wants to. She knows when the light is on she isn't protected. She keeps that in mind
