After some fighting, my friend and I finally got the transmission out of my car so we could change the clutch out.

After we unbolted the pressure plate, we discovered this:

That was all the pieces I could find. The rest were just tiny little chunks and whatnot.

Well *there's* my problem!

*edit* Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get the transmission back into the car? It seems like the rear of my engine tilted upwards after removing it and now we can't get it high enough to get the shaft into place.

One thing I read about today was wedging a scissor jack between the exhaust pipe and the floorboard and jacking the pipe away from the car (downwards) ... I'm hoping for other suggestions if this doesn't work, I'm also posting my possible solution here in hopes that someone else can search/find it when they have the same problem.

try lowering the front cradle then take one or two ratchet straps... one end anywhere on lower front of the engine(i used the front lip near the oil pan on my sr) then the other end somewhere on the cowl (i put it where the cowl covers are supposed to be under the windshield wipers) then ratchet it and watch the front of the engine go up, while the back of the engine goes down. if u need an illustration i can make one.

"Previous Owner™" Brand

I'm not sure if I should throw it away or mount it on the wall.

It definitely looks like there was uneven wear on it. I bet that is why I was having those shuddering issues I'd posted about long time ago.

So you can't lift the front of the motor up to angle the rear down?

I think I'm following what you're saying... and I just happen to have a ratchet strap.

I've also got this mystery rubber block that I have no idea where it came from. It's roughtly an 1" all around, maybe slightly rectangular.

I tried that (woodblock and scissor jack on the very front of the oilpan on the "front side" of the mounts), but it seemed to just left the whole engine up.

Hey while I've got a few people watching the topic. Should I replace my transmission mount while I'm at it? It seems like it'd be fairly easy to replace at a later date though... and is it true that I can refill the transmission through the hole where the gear shifter goes?

it worked on mine, but i have stock motor mounts so they are a bit more forgiving to move around the engine.

Oh, I thought you probably had an engine hoist.

Nevermind.

Place the trans on a jack (balanced) turn the bell housing until the starter bump is at 6 o clock. Lift trans into place with jack and wiggle it into place. As soon as you feel the pilot line up push up the rear of the trans to lift it off the jack and spin the trans so the starter bump is where it should be.

We had to use ratchet straps to pull the oil pan towards the sway bar. It pulled the back of the engine down enough to put the input shaft in with the starter pointed down, then we spun the transmission to where it should be.
