Hey all,

I tried to search and found nothing that'll be of great help. So, here is the post.

I'm new here hoping to become a 240SX owner. I was thinking of an S14. I don't even now where to start.

Lets just say, money was not a problem. I'm looking for a basic 240 to start out with and then work on it to be fast and look good. What should I buy to start with? I mean S14, model, year and whatever...I know this one so far (manual).

Remember, your comments will influence my decision. I'm an owner of a 92si/VTEC Prelude switching over to the 240SX (looking at S14).

Thanks,

Well, it's purely preference...but here's a quick overview of your choices.

The S13 was made from '89 to '94 (convertibles only in '94), weighs about 2700 lbs for the hatch and slightly less for the coupe. The '89 and '90 had the SOHC KA24E and a twin-snout front end. '91-94 had the KA24DE and a redesigned front end and wheel trims, plus HICAS, ABS, VLSD and other options were available on the hatch.

The S14 is about 100 lbs heavier from the factory, slightly wider and longer, only comes in a coupe body style, has slightly softer stock suspension (probably irrelevant at this point) and had 2 front ends - the Zenki (sic?) from '95 to '96, with the rounded headlights, and then the Kouki from '97 - '98 with the slanted headlights. The engine is the DOHC KA24DE.

I've driven both, I prefer the S13 hatch for its styling, cool interior and overall more driver-oriented feeling...that's just me. You should try driving both before you settle on one or the other.

i dont know much about the s14's but i would say go with a 97-98, i think they're the ones with the pinched looking headlights, as for type my guess would be that the se is a good deal

If money is not a problem, get a 97-98 240sx SE. Should run around $10-12k. 95-96 240sx SE would be $5-7k. I reccomend the SE for sure, it has the 5 lug wheels and some other visual niceties. If you want to car to be really fast you're going to need to do the engine swap or turbo the ka24de... your search should have turn up a ton of hits, but we really need to know your goal for the car (autox, drag, daily driver?) before saying any more.

get a 95 if you have any desire to have a streetable swap. cause its has the obd1 not obd2 which uses the computer hookup test for emissions. obd1 is strait old skoolin' with the sniffer.

Wow, are you keeping your lude? If you sell it i hope you stay with 240 for a while cause it might be hard with the difference in speed from your lude. Thats probably a second faster in quater. But good luck in the end 240 will overcome in the end

Are you sure they didn't make it in other years? I have seen advertised 93 convertibles, although they could have just not known what they were talking about. In fact here's a link to one right now:

ANyways the S13 is better IMO. It looks better if you fix it up, lighter, cheaper etc. When I go to the junkyard for pieces to my 92 240sx, I usually come across 8 or so 240s on a good day. Very easy to get most parts for.

I believe he meant that in 1994 they only made the convertible model, not the hatch or coupe. And yes, there were convertibles made in '93.
